The twelfth and last edition of Labor Berlin is a celebration of Berlin’s artistic wealth: 10 curators present a group exhibition displaying 39 artistic positions from 28 countries.
When Valerie Smith launched the series in 2010, she created a platform for international artists who have chosen Berlin as a temporary creative and experimental base: a base on which they leave their own defining mark.

100 years ago, in 1912, Wassily Kandinsky published in the almanac "The Blue Rider" a text which seems to be a manifest on founding sound art - at least a foreshadowing of sound art. His writing "Über Bühnenkomposition" (On stage composition) is a theoretical preface on a planned stage piece called "Der gelbe Klang" (The yellow sound) and in this text he postulated a new connection between the arts, an "inner" connection of "sound, color, words" and movement. His piece was never realised in his lifetime.

The installation Der gelbe Klang2 (The yellow sound2) as a homage to Kandinsky takes his conceptual ideas and makes a transfer into a contemporary sound art piece. Georg Klein often works in his sound art installations with a certain color which defines togehter with a basic sound a fundamental atmosphere of a specific site, preparing a field in which more material - sounds, words, video - can appear.

About the artist:

Ireland-Limerick

Ends 14.01.2013

This exhibition highlights O’Donoghue’s forensic interest in the medium and process of painting and an ongoing dialogue with the mediation of images through digital technology. Hovering between the realms of abstraction and representation, between the mathematical encoded and the organic, O’Donoghue’s paintings are the result of a process which is highly analytical and methodical and yet inviting of errors, misalignments and glitches. The imagery comes almost exclusively from found photographs sourced from the Internet, where O'Donoghue plays with random throw-away moments of everyday life, merging them together in various interconnected themes. In O’Donoghue’s work, the painterliness of his technique works with the disposable nature of his subjects to make the work sometimes poignant and melancholic, or alternatively brittle and harsh. His work is deeply influenced by the digital high speed reality we now live in and he transports these seemingly meaningless sound-bite images...

Muntadas at Jeu de Paume

Jeu de Paume presents a major exhibition by internationally recognized artist Antoni Muntadas, one of the early practitioners of conceptual and media art.

France-Paris

Ends 20.01.2013

The show will survey Muntadas' prolific career, from the seventies to present days. His art practice spans four decades, in which he has utilized actions, video, photography, multi-media installations, publications, public art, the internet, radio and other media to address key political and social issues of our time. Incorporating in-depth research and astute readings of cultural situations, his incisive works have addressed ideas such as the relationship between public and private, the flows of information along the media landscape, and the inherent power of architecture and other social frameworks.

Because of the current noticeable affinity towards the use and recontextualization of found material in the work of many artists active in international art discourse the curatorial team of the FOTOGALERIE WIEN, together with art historian and curator Petra Noll, has developed APPROPRIATION as the special focus for this year. The conceptual basis is provided by the Appropriation Art of the 1970s and 1980s in which artists conceptually appropriated pre-existing art works. The tripartite series of exhibitions takes the subject a little further and presents photo and video artists who are involved with found footage material from very different contexts or employ strategies of re-enactment in order to open up new perspectives and pictorial realities.

Mario Asef's public interventions, photographs, videos, soundscapes and installations focus on the legibility of urban space and architecture into a specific social- cultural context within a historical moment.
Hopping to find a way to explore an intimate social-critical and political aspect of forms, the artist develop a system of telling, in the sense of a thought experiment that aims to produce an unpredictable effect - a moment of logical absurdity-creating a fiction of the real. He is a precise and yet poetic recorder of the fleeting and the mundane. His work emphasise, in an unpretentious and yet precise way, moments of displacement and the disappearance of space and time. In a subversive and humorous way, Mario Asef manages to breach the rules of the every day life. Like a researcher he explores, with the most different mediums, the construct of public spaces and public life.

After four international and topic centered exhibition projects with more than 200 participants we would like in 2012/13 to focus on the puristic and fascinating topic NOTHING. In the beginning we were planning to show only one explicit work but finaly we decided to choose two out of the planty applications which received us.

SYSTEMS AND ACCIDENTS

Ex Elettrofonica
Vicolo di Sant’ Onofrio 10
Rome
http://www.exelettrofonica.com/

On December 12th 2012 Ex Elettrofonica will mark the opening of the exhibition Systems and Accidents curated by Lýdia Pribišová , an exploration of the idea of systems of social control and of their violation, read through the works of four Czech and Slovak artists.

Italy-Rome

Ends 08.02.2013

Cyril Blažo, Tomáš Džadoň, Eva Koťátková and Pavla Sceránková are of the generation raised in the period straddling the collapse of the Communist system and its persistence, in the imagination of our time, as a relic.
Each artist probes the limits, the malaise, and the structure of the systems of control that constantly influence their reality. This practice enables them to analyse the role of the person within the social system, and to investigate that person’s decision-making possibilities. The system acts in a devastating manner on the individual, guiding them, directing them, obliging them. On the other side is the unexpected, escaping the system, free. In this way the artists set up situations in which chance plays a determining role. Thus they choose to work with performative elements, involving the visitor in the most disparate scenarios, at times even unpleasant, evoking the atmosphere of times past through forms, materials and architecture...

Ends 02.09.2015

You're invited to follow the amazing global art initiative 'FRAGILE - global performance chain journey' in which more than 750 artists from 62 countries are participating.
Can one fragile object, in times of email, chat and mobility, pass one time all around the world safely – from hand to hand, charging itself with stories and people? Will it be the same when it returns?

For the project, more than 750 artists from all over the world work together in one same action: all will carry one fragile object step by step around the planet.
The journey of the object and the works the artists will conceive during the project will be communicated on the website and in regular newsletters.
