HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is conceived and realised by STUDIOvisits, Berlin, a project of encounters taken in random intervals between artists, theorists, architects and the public.
The archive and documentation of the project HOLIDAYS IN GREECE will be on display on MS IM-PORT//EX-PORT in Kassel from 4-8th of September 2012 in an installation especially conceived for the ship: The text and image statements printed on standard, DIN A4 pages are fixed with pins to the surface comprised of rolls of fabric.
Vassiliea Stylianidou had the fabric rolls exported from her family’s textile export company in Thessaloniki. In the 1980s and 1990s, the textile company mainly exported t-shirts to Germany.
For the last 5 years, the textile export industry in Thessaloniki – an important economic sector in Greece – has found itself in deep crisis.
The aim of this installation on the ship MS IM-PORT//EX-PORT in Kassel is not to create a symbolic remedy of the crisis, but to revive its genuine economic...

Denk-Zeichen Küstrin – Reminder Kostrzyn – Memento Kostrzyn
Nach seinem Fluchtversuch aus Preußen wurde Kronprinz Friedrich von seinem Vater Friedrich Wilhelm I. von 1730-1732 im Küstriner Schloss inhaftiert. Am 6. November 1730 ließ der König vor den Augen des Kronprinzen dessen Fluchthelfer und Freund Hans Hermann von Katte enthaupten. Noch ist die ehemalige Festung, in der sich das Schloss befand, nicht touristisch erschlossen und befindet sich in einem Zwischenstadium – außerhalb der Stadt Kostrzyn, aber direkt an der Landesgrenze Polens. Auf dem Ruinengelände der einstigen Festung Küstrin (heute Kostrzyn nad Odrą) haben elf internationale Künstler situationsspezifische Kunstwerke implantiert, die skulptural ungewöhnlich sind und den Charakter von Denk-Zeichen haben.

Im Mittelpunkt dieser zweiten thematischen Ausstellung „Das verortete Verlangen 2“ stellt sich die Frage, in welcher physischen Form und welcher überhöhten Perspektive der Künstler das Festhalten seines Blickes vermittelt? Welche Verortung der „Inneren Landschaft“ wird festgehalten? Wie können wir uns tatsächlich mit der Erde verbinden?
Die künstlerischen Ergebnisse der Ausstellung - mit einem kartographischen Blick gearbeitet - zeigen einen Ausschnitt, immer ein Teil des Ganzen, unserer Welt. Alle präsentierten zehn Positionen beziehen sich auf einen realen Zustand. The Field is an installation by the Israeli artist Orly Hummel on view at the Pavillon am Milchhof in Berlin. The visitor enters a nature-like space, produced by two hundred sculptured objects, simulating a dry corn field. The viewer's first encounter with the work brings about an encounter with a sculptural space with an organized pattern, well designed, and obsessively made. Hummel demands that the viewer examine and explore the space, cooperate with the sculptural manipulation, and sense the claustrophobic and suffocating atmosphere that can be experienced in a real cornfield. Hummel chooses to work with a flexible polymeric material with a skin tone color, reminiscent of the human body, and thus, the absent human presence in this installation becomes an implied reality that gradually fades out. The visitor enters into Hummel's own fictional narrative standing inside the fabricated cornfield that almost meets the abstract, and he is required to continue visualizing the narrative.

During the exhibition curated by Valerie Smith and entitled Between Walls and Windows. Architecture and Ideology, and only in September, this landmark building can be experienced as a large-scale sculpture. Ten location-specific new productions by international artists and architects turn the indoor and outdoor spaces of the HKW into stages for discussions of all that architecture can be. On opening day, the artists personally present their projects. After that, Studio Miessen invites you to a BBQ in its "Thinking Kiosk" on the roof terrace.

Burnout is increasingly becoming a diagnosis of our achievement-oriented society, for it provides evidence of the willingness to do the utmost and enable what appears to be unworkable, to exceed limits and surpass oneself. The exhibition project “A Burnt-Out Case?” seeks to cast a different view to the phenomenon of burnout that goes beyond the popular, often pseudo-therapeutic discourse.
The project group of the NGBK that conceived and realized “A Burnt-Out Case?” calls for a new and reflected way of dealing with the theme that does not stop with “faster-higher-farther”. A special focus is on the perspective of artists and creatives who often work and live in a precarious environment and are simultaneously considered the precursors of flexibilized and deregulated worlds of work.

Burnout is increasingly becoming a diagnosis of our achievement-oriented society, for it provides evidence of the willingness to do the utmost and enable what appears to be unworkable, to exceed limits and surpass oneself. The exhibition project “A Burnt-Out Case?” seeks to cast a different view to the phenomenon of burnout that goes beyond the popular, often pseudo-therapeutic discourse.
The project group of the NGBK that conceived and realized “A Burnt-Out Case?” calls for a new and reflected way of dealing with the theme that does not stop with “faster-higher-farther”. A special focus is on the perspective of artists and creatives who often work and live in a precarious environment and are simultaneously considered the precursors of flexibilized and deregulated worlds of work.

Im Werk der Bildhauerin Susanne Ring, geb. 1966 in Mainz – lebt in Berlin, begegnen wir phantastischen Figurenwelten von gleichermaßen eigenwilliger wie eindringlicher Vielseitigkeit und Offenheit. Susanne Ring läßt sich bei ihrer Arbeit von Science-Fiction-Motiven ebenso anregen wie von Totems afrikanischer Kulturen.
Tian Tian Wang, die 1980 in Qingdao/VRChina geborene und nun in Berlin lebende Künstlerin, malt vermeintlich einfache Dinge wie Wolken, Rauchschwaden, Häuser, Feuerzungen oder Berge. In der reduzierten, abstrakten und teilweise naiv anmutenden Darstellung, löst sich die Bildhaftigkeit der konkreten Dinge auf und sie verbleiben in ihrer Zeichenhaftigkeit.

Die internationale Gruppenausstellung „Hungry City“ versammelt 19 künstlerische Positionen, die Land-wirtschaft thematisieren und auf unterschiedliche Aspekte von Nahrungsmittelproduktion und -versorgung eingehen. Aktuelle Werke werden ergänzt durch Arbeiten namhafter KünstlerInnen der 1960er bis 1980er Jahre, die darlegen, dass das Thema in der Kunst bereits in vergangenen Jahrzehnten virulent war. Neue Kunstgattungen wie die Rural Art und Projekte urbaner Landwirtschaft verdeutlichen die Brisanz der Thematik und verweisen auf Veränderungen in stereotypen Zuschreibungen von städtischem und ländli-chem Raum.

100 years ago, in 1912, Wassily Kandinsky published in the almanac "The Blue Rider" a text which seems to be a manifest on founding sound art - at least a foreshadowing of sound art. His writing "Über Bühnenkomposition" (On stage composition) is a theoretical preface on a planned stage piece called "Der gelbe Klang" (The yellow sound) and in this text he postulated a new connection between the arts, an "inner" connection of "sound, color, words" and movement. His piece was never realised in his lifetime.
The installation Der gelbe Klang2 (The yellow sound2) as a homage to Kandinsky takes his conceptual ideas and makes a transfer into a contemporary sound art piece. Georg Klein often works in his sound art installations with a certain color which defines togehter with a basic sound a fundamental atmosphere of a specific site, preparing a field in which more material - sounds, words, video - can appear.
