PLANETEN/PLANETS - Rebecca Agnes
VBM 2O.1O Contemporary arts & design
Lübbener Straße, 23
10997
Berlin
Opening hours TUE-SAT 2.00 pm - 6.00 pm or by appointment
http://www.vbm2010.com/vbm2010/VBM2010.html
agnes.rebe@googlemail.com
http://www.rebeccaagnes.org/
Berlin
Ends 08.06.2012
By using different expressive media, video and embroidery, the artist unveils an interesting analytic perspective that reconciles the prerequisites of science with those of literature. The works of Rebecca Agnes are physical and concrete, but also deceptive and illusory. They can be a depiction of abstract worlds inspired by literature or titles of sci-fi novels, or maps embroidered on canvas; they all reflect the impossibility of tracing an identikit of the universe by splitting the scientific discoveries from the multifaceted public imagination already consolidated by the narrative.

Now&After'12
«Now&After'12» will take place within the period 24 May – 10 June 2012 in Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Petrova st. 25. 107031 Moscow
Open Daily 12 - 8pm
Thursday 1 - 9:30pm
http://christophersteadman.com/
Moscow / Russia
Ends 10.06.2012
The topic is "SUPER- SUPER CITY".
The modern city is more than just a thickly settled agglomeration of architectural and engineering structures. It is a metropolis, absorbing millions of inhabitants. It is a settlement subordinated to the logic of industrial development. It is a small town, where time glides. It is a habitat that have known better days and unneeded now.
According to the rules of formal logic a double statement is not a denial, but merely reinforces the statement. However, contrary to logic, whether a double statement is a denial or a statement depends on intonation. The intonation is determined by an artist.

Take a Dream on a Sunday
Friday May 25, 8 pm, 9 pm, 10 pm
At the junction Randolph and Desplaines Street, the Haymarket Square, in 1886 battles were fought, from which the May 1st emerged as a celebration of labor. It was fought for the enforcement of the eight-hour day. The “Haymarket Riots“ were brutally suppressed. “Made in America“ is a track from the Jay-Z and Kanye West published hip-hop album “Watch the Throne“, which appeared in 2011. Along with Warren Buffet, Jay-Z is one of the richest men in the United States. He is of African-American descent, grew up in the ghetto of Brooklyn NY, and – with his colleague Kanye West – has discussed the pride to, have “made it“ in America. To me, the title “Made in America“ represents the contradictions of the “American Dream“.

Also: Ran an den Ernst!

Prosthesis 9t
Die raum
Oderberger Straße 56
Berlin
http://dieraum.net/
http://www.marioasef.net/
Berlin
Ends 23.06.2012
Prosthesis 9t is part of an ongoing body of work titled Spacial Prosthetics, which seek to create a physical as well as symbolic extension of architectural spaces. For his installation in die raum Mario Asef has “expropriated” insulation boards from a local building site. The polystyrene slabs are then used to construct improvised seating, which transforms the exhibition space into a 24 hour social meeting point. Removing the facade completely the installation underlines the ambiguous position of the space as something in between the public and the private.
Prosthesis 9t represents an organic cycle of shifts in function and symbolic value, which goes beyond die raum in time and space. The polystyrene slabs - originally intended for a fixed position as insulation of a house – will deteriorate during the exhibition period, and continue the cycle “reinserted” into public space after the end of the show.
Live Electroacoustic Music with 2kg friends and Gato Leiras + gin and tonic.

A Time Capsule is a container storing a selection of objects chosen as being typical of the present time, buried for discovery in the future. At this moment in human history, four time capsules have been launched into space— two Pioneer Plaques and the two Voyager Golden Records with the hope that other civilized spacefarers will find them. In 2014 the KEO satellite will be sent into space with individual messages from earthlings to be read by future earthlings when the satellite returns to earth in the year 52,000...

100 years ago, in 1912, Wassily Kandinsky published in the almanac "The Blue Rider" a text which seems to be a manifest on founding sound art - at least a foreshadowing of sound art. His writing "Über Bühnenkomposition" (On stage composition) is a theoretical preface on a planned stage piece called "Der gelbe Klang" (The yellow sound) and in this text he postulated a new connection between the arts, an "inner" connection of "sound, color, words" and movement. His piece was never realised in his lifetime.
The installation Der gelbe Klang2 (The yellow sound2) as a homage to Kandinsky takes his conceptual ideas and makes a transfer into a contemporary sound art piece. Georg Klein often works in his sound art installations with a certain color which defines togehter with a basic sound a fundamental atmosphere of a specific site, preparing a field in which more material - sounds, words, video - can appear.
