An artwork which is suitable for being represented in a digital format, as information, can be identically duplicated in unlimited numbers and shared on P2P networks on the Internet by the artist without the intermediation of the culture industry. If this work of art is also suitable for being experienced independent of space and time and without the help of any particular
sophisticated apparatus, it can communicate the ideas of the artist to everyone who has basic tools for and knowledge of using the Internet.
This study suggests and introduces the concept of “digitiple” as a model for the construction and distribution of such an artwork as a “digital multiple” to be shared on P2P networks as a copyleft “digital gift”. “Digitiple” is just one example of many potential political uses of information technologies in contemporary art.

SCREENSHOT is a curatorial project initiated by Anna Mikkola and Michael Ruiz dedicated to researching moving image artworks. It presents works by artists fluent in prevailing everyday technological tools, which they use to conceptually approach and pose critical questions about our increasingly screen-based reality. Their works engage with the concepts of ambiguous authorship, mediated realities, the physicality of information, and the evolution of data, which we believe to be indicative of a present moment in the cultural landscape.

The exhibition then comes in three parts:
· A series of correspondences between artists (Song-Ming Ang, Edouard Baribeaud and Nuno Vicente) and myself with the main stipulation being that we could not communicate about the project outside of our mail to each other.
· Letters created or selected by artists, curators and writers.
· And finally, a letter station with paper and envelopes to write to the participants in the exhibition.

It has been said over and over, that with the tidal wave of the internet and ‘modern living’, our communication has changed: we text, email, tweet, message and our physical mailboxes are now filled with junkmail, bills, menus and the occasional postcard if we are very lucky (or perhaps this is just me). It feels like an age ago since our main form of long distance communication was either via landline or post.

This exhibition focuses on the humble letter. It is not, however, intended to mourn its demise, but to instead use it is a means to explore the way that different forms of correspondence affect what is communicated and how. The time taken to create a letter, the effort to send it and the delay between it being received and responded to (or potentially lost or ignored); its tactile nature, easily torn, burnt or lost; and material presence that carries the mark of the sender, all add up to very different content, form and experience.

FACTORY-ART

Berlin

Ends 23.11.2012

The Factory-Art Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of unusual fusion between art and craft.

Pottery is one of the oldest art forms on Earth, but it didn't start out being considered art. For years, pottery was created by craftspeople strictly for utilitarian purposes with little consideration for how they looked.

In parallel - works of great masters, demonized and mocked at the beginning of their appearance, over time understood and appreciated, today companions of our age on this path, always keen, always daring, always aggressive :
AUBERTIN, BEUYS, DALI, HARTUNG, LAM, MATTA, MIRO, SPOERRI, TAPIES

Do you know my age?
A good question for our brains.

Black Holes - Ulrike Mohr

Time becomes material.

Meanwhile meaning and sense get lost in immateriality. Only the energy of the transformed object persists. And with it the reference to a small eternity the thinking of it defies even the biggest courage.

There is the charming impression of unclear spaces of time. There also is the maelstrom of density and a totally unmetaphysic spell: Alchemy. Black turns to brilliance. And to where this happens no human path will ever lead. Just guess and smoke, literally taken. The form only remains. And the knowledge which wavering and searching closes the objects in.

100 years ago, in 1912, Wassily Kandinsky published in the almanac "The Blue Rider" a text which seems to be a manifest on founding sound art - at least a foreshadowing of sound art. His writing "Über Bühnenkomposition" (On stage composition) is a theoretical preface on a planned stage piece called "Der gelbe Klang" (The yellow sound) and in this text he postulated a new connection between the arts, an "inner" connection of "sound, color, words" and movement. His piece was never realised in his lifetime.

The installation Der gelbe Klang2 (The yellow sound2) as a homage to Kandinsky takes his conceptual ideas and makes a transfer into a contemporary sound art piece. Georg Klein often works in his sound art installations with a certain color which defines togehter with a basic sound a fundamental atmosphere of a specific site, preparing a field in which more material - sounds, words, video - can appear.

Muntadas at Jeu de Paume

Jeu de Paume presents a major exhibition by internationally recognized artist Antoni Muntadas, one of the early practitioners of conceptual and media art.

France-Paris

Ends 20.01.2013

The show will survey Muntadas' prolific career, from the seventies to present days. His art practice spans four decades, in which he has utilized actions, video, photography, multi-media installations, publications, public art, the internet, radio and other media to address key political and social issues of our time. Incorporating in-depth research and astute readings of cultural situations, his incisive works have addressed ideas such as the relationship between public and private, the flows of information along the media landscape, and the inherent power of architecture and other social frameworks.

You're invited to follow the amazing global art initiative 'FRAGILE - global performance chain journey' in which more than 750 artists from 62 countries are participating.
Can one fragile object, in times of email, chat and mobility, pass one time all around the world safely – from hand to hand, charging itself with stories and people? Will it be the same when it returns?

For the project, more than 750 artists from all over the world work together in one same action: all will carry one fragile object step by step around the planet.
The journey of the object and the works the artists will conceive during the project will be communicated on the website and in regular newsletters.
