Seit 2006 veranstaltet die Emerson Gallery Berlin (EGB) das inzwischen renommierte Sommerfest der Internationalen Kunst in Berlin Mitte, das die vielseitige Kultur eines ausgewählten Landes einem breiteren deutschen Publikum präsentiert wird. Bis dato hat die EGB mit Botschaften, Kulturministerien und Privatunternehmen aus sechs Ländern zusammen gearbeitet, um die bildende Kunst, Theater, Musik, Literatur, Küche, Poesie und Geschichte aus Kanada, Dänemark, China, Island, Japan und Mexiko zu feiern. Mittlerweile ist das Sommerfest ein bedeutender kultureller Austausch geworden, um internationale Toleranz wie auch die Tourismusbranche der jeweiligen Länder zu fördern.

Visual language shows up in any urban space. In our daily lives, we navigate virtual and real spaces by constantly translating and decoding signs and symbols. Like any form of communication, language remains highly context specific. Can we recreate basic forms of visual language related to the place we live – visual language of localities? What happens if we alienate the context and disembody language? Can we use this "disorder" as a starting point for an artistic work and create a kind of global language?

Global Alien's projects deal with the fragmentary effect of globalization and cultural diversity. Investigating aesthetic visibilities of social and urban realities, our approach is to invent ways of communication, in which the audience is invited to participate in play and game-like performances. The aim of each event is to create conditions of performativity that show how identities and power relations are being constructed. Global Alien's current collaborators are: Youngjoo Cho, Thorbjørn Reuter Christiansen, Lizza May David, Marte Kiessling, Nam-See Kim, Jae-Hyun Yoo. Founded in 2005, Global Alien has undertaken projects in Korea, Denmark, the United States and Germany. Coming from different backgrounds – both artistic and biographic – we strive to work together as a group to share and exchange our various ideas and positions.

Im Mittelpunkt dieser zweiten thematischen Ausstellung „Das verortete Verlangen 2“ stellt sich die Frage, in welcher physischen Form und welcher überhöhten Perspektive der Künstler das Festhalten seines Blickes vermittelt? Welche Verortung der „Inneren Landschaft“ wird festgehalten? Wie können wir uns tatsächlich mit der Erde verbinden?
Die künstlerischen Ergebnisse der Ausstellung - mit einem kartographischen Blick gearbeitet - zeigen einen Ausschnitt, immer ein Teil des Ganzen, unserer Welt. Alle präsentierten zehn Positionen beziehen sich auf einen realen Zustand. Sie sind immer als Puzzlestück zu sehen, nicht als Raumdarstellung mit einer Begrenzung, sondern mit einer visuellen Weite über den Rand hinaus.

The Field is an installation by the Israeli artist Orly Hummel on view at the Pavillon am Milchhof in Berlin. The visitor enters a nature-like space, produced by two hundred sculptured objects, simulating a dry corn field. The viewer's first encounter with the work brings about an encounter with a sculptural space with an organized pattern, well designed, and obsessively made. Hummel demands that the viewer examine and explore the space, cooperate with the sculptural manipulation, and sense the claustrophobic and suffocating atmosphere that can be experienced in a real cornfield. Hummel chooses to work with a flexible polymeric material with a skin tone color, reminiscent of the human body, and thus, the absent human presence in this installation becomes an implied reality that gradually fades out. The visitor enters into Hummel's own fictional narrative standing inside the fabricated cornfield that almost meets the abstract, and he is required to continue visualizing the narrative.

The former Congress Hall, now home to the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, is an architectural icon of post-war modernity. During the exhibition curated by Valerie Smith and entitled Between Walls and Windows. Architecture and Ideology, and only in September, this landmark building can be experienced as a large-scale sculpture. Ten location-specific new productions by international artists and architects turn the indoor and outdoor spaces of the HKW into stages for discussions of all that architecture can be. On opening day, the artists personally present their projects. After that, Studio Miessen invites you to a BBQ in its "Thinking Kiosk" on the roof terrace.

Die Zeichnung ist Träger ästhetischer und existentieller Bedeutung. Sie ist eine Kunstform, die den Blick und das Bewusstsein nicht nur für Visionen öffnet, sondern auch die Reflexion über die uns umgebende Wirklichkeit vertieft.

Art Laboratory Berlin is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition Embodiment of Time, which is part of the series Time & Technology.
The Japanese artist and scholar Yasuhiro Sakamoto and the Spanish composer Iñigo Giner Miranda have developed the installation String Quartet without Strings for Four Loudspeakers and an Art Machine especially for the exhibition.
The American artist Dave Hebb deals with artifacts of industrial civilization in the form of photography, video and installation. Art Laboratory Berlin is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition Embodiment of Time, which is part of the series Time & Technology.
The Japanese artist and scholar Yasuhiro Sakamoto and the Spanish composer Iñigo Giner Miranda have developed the installation String Quartet without Strings for Four Loudspeakers and an Art Machine especially for the exhibition.
The American artist Dave Hebb deals with artifacts of industrial civilization in the form of photography, video and installation. His video installation Monitor, which will be shown at Art Laboratory Berlin, is a video and photographic documentation of an environmental intervention extending over a one year period.

Burnout is increasingly becoming a diagnosis of our achievement-oriented society, for it provides evidence of the willingness to do the utmost and enable what appears to be unworkable, to exceed limits and surpass oneself. The exhibition project “A Burnt-Out Case?” seeks to cast a different view to the phenomenon of burnout that goes beyond the popular, often pseudo-therapeutic discourse.
The project group of the NGBK that conceived and realized “A Burnt-Out Case?” calls for a new and reflected way of dealing with the theme that does not stop with “faster-higher-farther”. A special focus is on the perspective of artists and creatives who often work and live in a precarious environment and are simultaneously considered the precursors of flexibilized and deregulated worlds of work.

Outside of personal romance, collaboration is perhaps the most elemental form of politics—just consider how the term plays a hand in issues as basic as "two heads are better than one" and as large as international alliances. To crack open this power relation, Surplus Authors looks at a group of artists whose work traces and delineates several fault lines inherent in the act of collaboration from (art) historical and social indebtedness, to trust, generosity, incentives, antagonism, and even cooption. Without laying claim to any illustrative narratives, Surplus Authors presents itself during a growing urge and call for institutions to work together as a promised means to alleviate the reasons for austerity. As a possible retort, Surplus Authors begs the question: Is collaboration an end in and of itself, or is it a tenuous and unfolding process in which psychological, intellectual, and political dynamics are contested and reconstituted?

100 years ago, in 1912, Wassily Kandinsky published in the almanac "The Blue Rider" a text which seems to be a manifest on founding sound art - at least a foreshadowing of sound art. His writing "Über Bühnenkomposition" (On stage composition) is a theoretical preface on a planned stage piece called "Der gelbe Klang" (The yellow sound) and in this text he postulated a new connection between the arts, an "inner" connection of "sound, color, words" and movement. His piece was never realised in his lifetime.
The installation Der gelbe Klang2 (The yellow sound2) as a homage to Kandinsky takes his conceptual ideas and makes a transfer into a contemporary sound art piece. Georg Klein often works in his sound art installations with a certain color which defines togehter with a basic sound a fundamental atmosphere of a specific site, preparing a field in which more material - sounds, words, video - can appear.
