DIORAMA von JÖRG FINUS // Zeichnung und Installation

Ends 27.04.2012

NEXT NATURE - BRAM BRAAM

Solo exhibition

The exhibition is in transition during the duration of the show. A new installation will be shown during Gallery Weekend.

Venue:
Kaleidoskop
Boddinstrasse 7
12053 Berlin

Berlin

Ends 29.04.2012

Braam’s work investigates our experience of time and space, the construction of our environment and our perception of this reality.

Reoccurring themes in his work are the tension between man and nature and the social issues that coincide with this. Our evolutionary process, that was originally a natural one, has become an almost completely uncontrollable human technological evolution.
You often see reoccurring mathematical structures and systems. These situations create both an intensity and complexity, but at the same time, are beautifully bright.

Bram Braam is a Dutch artist based in Berlin. Besides actively exhibiting in Germany and the Netherlands, he recently won the Jung Art Prize in Berlin.

Why would we, living in a contemporary world, need a bunker?

Fifteen international artists present their work inside the historically charged space of the Fichte Bunker, offering the possibility to investigate what we see, how we see, and who we are.

Daily, hourly, moment-to-moment we are bombarded with information, which we conceive to be the real picture of the world. The bunker provides a place to escape the overwhelming nature of constant communication and urges us to slow down the pace, focusing on ourselves in order to look out again for a better understanding of ourselves within our surroundings.

The exhibition “Faraway, So Close!” explores the structure of the bunker as a secluded space where we can investigate the gap between external reality and internal experience. The visitor follows a journey that begins with introspection and inner questions, gradually leading outwards to the self in context with the world...

"The relation between the stars and the paper: the paper is from early 1700 to mid 1800. The person that gave me the papers had written in each corner, how old the paper is. And i wanted to work with the time or age of the paper. So i looked up stars that was the same amount of lightyears away, as the paper is old. So if the paper is 260 years old, the star drawn on the paper is 260 lightyears away, and that means that the light from the star has travelled towards us from when the paper was made."

O Peso e a Ideia (the Weight and the Idea) aims to investigate the object/artwork based on its main existential premises: shape and concept. Consequently, the curators Orlando Franco and Nuno Vicente initiated a debate where they questioned the pysical and conceptual dimension of the artwork taking into consideration a plural understanding of this dichotomy, as well as, how each artist, individually, apprehends it.

A Time Capsule is a container storing a selection of objects chosen as being typical of the present time, buried for discovery in the future. At this moment in human history, four time capsules have been launched into space— two Pioneer Plaques and the two Voyager Golden Records with the hope that other civilized spacefarers will find them. In 2014 the KEO satellite will be sent into space with individual messages from earthlings to be read by future earthlings when the satellite returns to earth in the year 52,000...

100 years ago, in 1912, Wassily Kandinsky published in the almanac "The Blue Rider" a text which seems to be a manifest on founding sound art - at least a foreshadowing of sound art. His writing "Über Bühnenkomposition" (On stage composition) is a theoretical preface on a planned stage piece called "Der gelbe Klang" (The yellow sound) and in this text he postulated a new connection between the arts, an "inner" connection of "sound, color, words" and movement. His piece was never realised in his lifetime.

The installation Der gelbe Klang2 (The yellow sound2) as a homage to Kandinsky takes his conceptual ideas and makes a transfer into a contemporary sound art piece. Georg Klein often works in his sound art installations with a certain color which defines togehter with a basic sound a fundamental atmosphere of a specific site, preparing a field in which more material - sounds, words, video - can appear.

You're invited to follow the amazing global art initiative 'FRAGILE - global performance chain journey' in which more than 750 artists from 62 countries are participating.
Can one fragile object, in times of email, chat and mobility, pass one time all around the world safely – from hand to hand, charging itself with stories and people? Will it be the same when it returns?

For the project, more than 750 artists from all over the world work together in one same action: all will carry one fragile object step by step around the planet.
The journey of the object and the works the artists will conceive during the project will be communicated on the website and in regular newsletters.
