Daniela Pukropski.
Kuratiert von Silvia Nettekoven.

The Power to Host
international studio & curatorial program (iscp)
New York
Ends 01.07.2011
Addressing the possibility for the international circulation of ideas in the art world, The Power to Host navigates between two different but complementary interpretations of hospitality. Cosmopolitanism, according to Kant, is founded on the term "hospitality" as humanism on the move. For Derrida, to be hospitable it is first necessary that one must have the power to host or some kind of control over the people who are being hosted. This means that guests can be under control: to the closing of boundaries, to nationalism and even to the exclusion of particular groups. This is Derrida's possible conception of hospitality, in which our most well-intentioned conceptions of hospitality render the "other others".

Pattern & Signs - A language in between
Kunstverein Tiergarten | Galerie Nord
Turmstraße 75
10551 Berlin
Berlin
Ends 09.07.2011

"Art has always been the site of social and political power struggles. It has the capacity to defi ne or question existing power structures through representation. This can in turn influence how we as individuals are positioned, and position ourselves, in society. Simultaneously, social hierarchies within the art world defi ne whose voices are heard and whose are silenced. Although and sometimes precisely because artists of Color have very limited access to established cultural institutions, art can function
as a means of protest and resistance. With their work, artists of Color can produce new, self-defined images, beyond White cultural ascriptions, and give these often marginalized perspectives greater visibility in society." (sandrine micosse)
Now after the re-positioning the exhibition - making mirrors with:
Sonia Barrett, Jean-Ulrick Désert, Farida Heuck, Wayne Hodge, Rajkamal Kalohn, Wolfram Kastner, Philip Metz, Serfiraz Vural/Pasquale Rotter

You're invited to follow the amazing global art initiative 'FRAGILE - global performance chain journey' in which more than 750 artists from 62 countries are participating.
Can one fragile object, in times of email, chat and mobility, pass one time all around the world safely – from hand to hand, charging itself with stories and people? Will it be the same when it returns?
For the project, more than 750 artists from all over the world work together in one same action: all will carry one fragile object step by step around the planet.
The journey of the object and the works the artists will conceive during the project will be communicated on the website and in regular newsletters.
