Berlin – famously “poor, but sexy” – is attracting increasing numbers of artists from around the world, but offers too few major venues to meet exhibition demand. The new series Labor Berlin is dedicated to the enormous creative potential of this growing community and the trends it is generating.
Dan Mihaltianu, a 1990s Berlin transplant from Bucharest, will set the series in motion. His “Plaques tournantes” revolve around the drifting, colliding continental plates, center and periphery, gravitational pull and flight. “Turntables” composed of video, audio, vinyl records and a variety of electronic devices make up a room installation which pivots on the classic of electronic entertainment: the 45 rpm single.

Am letzten Mai-Wochenende lädt die Kolonie Wedding wieder ein zum Kunstwochenende mit Vernissagen. Steht die Bezeichnung des „weißen Würfels“ sonst für weitgehend neutrale, unauffällige Ausstellungsräume, deren Architektur sich den Exponaten möglichst unterordnet, so ist dieses Verhältnis im Schaufenster an der Oranienstrasse grundlegend verschieden: Das Fenster fungiert nicht nur als Ausstellungsfläche, sondern macht eben den Akt des Ausstellens zum Thema – es wird, wie Mel Bochner im Zusammenhang mit seinem Film „New York Windows“ (1966) sagte, zur „Metapher für Selbstreflexivität“. Eine selbstreflexive Haltung prägt auch die Arbeiten von Miriam Böhm.

THE KNOT is a mobile platform for artistic production and presentation that occupies different public places in the cities of Berlin, Warsaw and Bucharest from end of April through October 2010 converting them into free spaces of communication and artistic laboratory. By activating public space THE KNOT discusses the treatment of art outside of protective institutions, the research about possibilities of public space and the creation of experimental space for new forms of cooperation in the digital age. THE KNOT will start in Berlin at the Kulturforum, move to Mariannenplatz and close on the area of the former Airport Tempelhof.

THE KNOT is a mobile platform for artistic production and presentation that occupies different public places in the cities of Berlin, Warsaw and Bucharest from end of April through October 2010 converting them into free spaces of communication and artistic laboratory. By activating public space THE KNOT discusses the treatment of art outside of protective institutions, the research about possibilities of public space and the creation of experimental space for new forms of cooperation in the digital age. THE KNOT will start in Berlin at the Kulturforum, move to Mariannenplatz and close on the area of the former Airport Tempelhof.

"...draußen vor der tür“ ist eine audio-visuelle installation, welche eine aktive beteiligung des rezipienten vorraussetzt. imhoffs arbeit spielt mit der produktionsweise und den visuellen elementen der pop-musik, die sie in performative videos und eine als audio-vusuelles instrument fungierende installation übertragen hat. bei benutzung derselben hat der rezipient in seiner doppelrolle als dirigent und publikum buchstäblich alle fäden in der hand: von einem pult aus lässt sich die installation bedienen und maximal 6 tonspuren erklingen und samplen. der rezipient wird somit zum akteur, zu einem dirigent der möglichkeiten, der von seinem dirigentenpult aus ein sechs kisten videoorchester leitet."

"Der Ausstellungstitel 2-1/4-n/2 x 21/4-n/2 bezieht sich auf die mathematische Formel, die die Papiergrößen der ISO A (ursprünglich DIN A) Serien berechnet. Bei Art Laboratory Berlin wird nun die A4-Größe das grundlegende Element zur Konstruktion der Ausstellung. Der Ausstellungsraum wird zum Labor – zur Bürosituation, in der die KünstlerInnen Material und Informationen sammeln, Materialien werden auf A4 Papier gedruckt und kopiert. Anschließend werden die KünstlerInnen gegenseitig ihre Arbeiten reflektieren, auswählen und präsentieren. Ihr Work in Progress beginnt bereits eine Woche vor Ausstellungseröffnung (28. Diese "zuTATen" des Systems entwickeln, je nachdem wie "Anteil(s)nehmer/innen" handeln, unterschiedliche Wechselwirkungen. Handeln die Anteil(s)nehmer/innen nicht oder in die falsche Richtung, dann gibt es eine Krise. Doch sind den Anteil(s)nehmer/innen in jedem Fall verschiedene Genüsse garantiert. Im Menü zur Ausstellung bekommen Sie genussvoll Ahnungen davon.

They represent a tendency which deals with the personal narrative, the private sphere, the handmade, and the influence of signature; a tendency which left its mark on art of the 00's.

"UNIVERSITAS - Light-Orbiter
diameter 2,20 m (7,35 ft), 40 solar cells, created 2007, realized 2009
A blue ring turns slowly in space. With changing beam of light flares its iridescent surface from silicon crystals. The light-weight construction embodies pure function and associates airship structures and outer space habitats. Noiseless weightlessness dominate the scope. The light orbiter decelerate the speed of light into a contemplative orbit and transfers it as positive load to the viewer."
