"As part of the My City project a group of international artists,
writers, curators and museum professionals whose work relates to the
subject of public art will meet for the symposium "Art and Public
Space: May Symposium" to be held in Istanbul. The conversation will
cover concerns and ideas about temporary monuments and the value of
public squares, the production of new public cultural spaces,
unauthorised public interventions and public art biennials.
Istanbul is currently celebrating its selection as European Capital
of Culture 2010. To mark this important event the initiative My City
was launched as part of the European Commission's Cultural Bridges
Programme with the aim to establish partnerships between cultural
actors in Turkey and Europe and to reciprocally raise cultural
awareness."

subject of public art will meet for the symposium "Art and Public
Space: May Symposium" to be held in Istanbul. The conversation will
cover concerns and ideas about temporary monuments and the value of
public squares, the production of new public cultural spaces,
unauthorised public interventions and public art biennials.

Organized by Kurye Video Organization, the festival will showcase video selections from prestigious international partners while bringing together an unprecedented workshop program in order to promote video and digital arts in Istanbul.
Following last festival’s success, Kurye has decided to realize not one but two editions of the festival this year given Istanbul’s current position as the European Capital of Culture. Die künstlerische Plattform OFF FENCE setzt sich mit dem kulturellen Overflow auseinander, beleuchtet Überschneidungen und Spannungen in der Grenzregion zwischen Südkalifornien und Nordwest-Mexiko. Michelle Chong und Luis G. Hernandez Arbeiten untersuchen die ethnische Identität aus einer linguistischen Perspektive. Die Arbeiten von Ed Gomez und Camilo Ontiveros setzen sich mit den politischen und ökonomischen Auswirkungen des kulturellen Bruchs bzw. der kulturellen Trennung auseinander. Die Arbeiten von Katya Gardea Browne, einer Künstlerin aus Mexiko-Stadt, setzen sich mit physischen und geographischen Strukturen der Grenzregion auseinander.

The third exhibition at MMX will run from May 1-May 28 and will be ever changing and evolving throughout the duration of the show.
The third show at MMX expands out of the ground floor rooms and into the garden and back courtyard. Tobias Sternberg from Sweden is bringing back the dead with his life size sculptures of extinct animals. The garden at MMX will be transforming over the next months with the work of Mr. Sternberg’s interactive piece Schadensorge and also by Canadian Cedric Bomford. Bomford will be building one of his fantastical constructions that will snake across the front of the garden.
Inside, Veronika Schumacher continues to push the boundaries of what she started in Show II, her decadent and bipolar wallpaper will engulf the entire room this time. David Krepfle’s sculptures are dually humorous and mischievous as their visual color play bounces around the room. Screening program III is curated by the MMX directors.

Für ihre Ausstellung bei SOX nimmt Miriam Böhm den “White Cube” des Ausstellungsfensters zum Motiv. Steht die Bezeichnung des „weißen Würfels“ sonst für weitgehend neutrale, unauffällige Ausstellungsräume, deren Architektur sich den Exponaten möglichst unterordnet, so ist dieses Verhältnis im Schaufenster an der Oranienstrasse grundlegend verschieden: Das Fenster fungiert nicht nur als Ausstellungsfläche, sondern macht eben den Akt des Ausstellens zum Thema – es wird, wie Mel Bochner im Zusammenhang mit seinem Film „New York Windows“ (1966) sagte, zur „Metapher für Selbstreflexivität“. Eine selbstreflexive Haltung prägt auch die Arbeiten von Miriam Böhm.

Thinking and acting ecologically, environmentally friendly planning, and energy-efficient forms of construction – these are the new standards for a society that is faced with the effects of climate change and the foreseeable end of fossil fuels. Architects and urban planners seek to meet this challenge, and as the majority of the world’s inhabitants already live in cities, urban areas have become the main setting for their endeavours. In cooperation with ARCH+, Zeitschrift für Kultur und Städtebau, the ifa galleries present innovative projects in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

They paint, draw, sew, perform, play music and work with wood. The nine artists behind the exhibition House in my Head have chosen different materials and a different approach to their working processes than artists of the previous generation. They represent a tendency which deals with the personal narrative, the private sphere, the handmade, and the influence of signature; a tendency which left its mark on art of the 00's.

From now on new work of Roland Fuhrmann can be visited, which is permanently installed in the entrance hall of the main building of the Brandenburgian Technical University of Cottbus (art-and-construction). It is open week-daily and around the clock (night doormen).
"UNIVERSITAS - Light-Orbiter
diameter 2,20 m (7,35 ft), 40 solar cells, created 2007, realized 2009
A blue ring turns slowly in space. With changing beam of light flares its iridescent surface from silicon crystals. The light-weight construction embodies pure function and associates airship structures and outer space habitats. Noiseless weightlessness dominate the scope. The light orbiter decelerate the speed of light into a contemplative orbit and transfers it as positive load to the viewer."
