GLOTTOGENESIS / Matthew Vollgraff
"Whistle, Minotaure! 2", curated by Francesco Cavaliere & Marcel Türkowsky
GRIMMUSEUM,
Fichtestraße 2, 10967 Berlin
Opening/Performance: Wednesday 14. April 2010, 19.00
Performance by Brandon LaBelle, 20.00
Berlin
opening or event start 14.04.2010 19:10
Ends 18.04.2010
"GLOTTOGENESIS by Matthew Vollgraff explores, documents and fetishizes the threshold between silence and speech. Incorporating found sounds, drawings and video, the exhibition is a mining of origins: of voices, of history, of humanity. Vollgraff draws upon infants, animals and a 15th-century icon painter in a polemical gesture relocating the seat of the human soul in the throat."

Early Years
KW Institute for Contemporary Art
Auguststraße 69

http://www.kw-berlin.de
Berlin
Ends 18.04.2010
"The exhibition EARLY YEARS at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin wanders through the field of institutional self-reflection. It searches for terms fit to describe the emergence of a museum of art in the present, actual artistic, political, and social discourses. The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw requested for this exhibition the collaboration from artists, with whom it had worked so far, in its pioneering days. The Museum shared its anxieties with the group, and they reciprocated with their share of expectations towards the new institution.
Curated by Sebastian Cichocki, Ana Janevski, Katarzyna Karwańska and Joanna Mytkowska

(Istanbul) Transit is the first exhibition of the Topos Istanbul series that will occur at the passage de Retz in Paris. In this exhibition, the artists have chosen to deal with the phenomenon that is Istanbul. They confront their own ideas of the city with the utter reality of its everyday life. Fluxes of images will be shown in relation with artistic exchanges and how they are affected by Istanbul's dailiness, and more importantly how can one divert this daily momentum in search of an artistic process. What is the place of art in this ubiquitous everyday life?

"The actual term "open source" comes from computer programming. Open-Source-Software is based on a publicly accessible code. Such code is freely available and may be changed according to a user's needs and ideas. At first sight, this seems to aim to reduce authority and encourage individual freedom. However, through such a participatory act the user feeds information back into the system and adds this newly acquired knowledge to the original source; individual achievement and authorship become subordinate under an anonymous code."

"The changing of spaces over time forms the central motif in the works of Norbert Wiesneth. As a “chronicler of absence”, he traces the contradictions and new formations of abandoned (city) spaces. Disturbing elements of apparently formally-arranged objects establish narrative layers. Wiesneth bases his series in empty rooms of a once famous hotel in Tangier, which is being gradually reconquered by nature; in decaying socialist architecture on the Baltic Sea; and in unkempt traffic islands in metropolitan road systems. If you immerse yourself in these analogue black and white photographic scenes, the absence seems to come to life."

"Read metaphorically, “drizzle” could refer to a condition in which our perceptions are fragmentary at best, interfering with our ability to definitively categorize common, everyday perceptions. Our view of the familiar is obstructed, muddled, undermined, engulfed by unfamiliar experiences. Between unmediated experience, emotional entanglement and unexpected memories, new associative narratives emerge. Something is shifted, brought to light in a different way and thereby enriched with projections and fantasies. A sphere is opened up in which reality and fiction—consciously or unconsciously—are mysteriously interwoven."

Minimalism Germany 1960s
Daimler Contemporary
Haus Huth
Alte Potsdamer Straße 5

Germany
http://www.collection.daimler.com
Berlin
Ends 30.05.2010
"The initial exhibition at Daimler Contemporary in 2010 will show major
1960s trends in German abstract art from the Daimler Art Collection:
Constructivism, Zero, Minimal Art, Concept and Seriality. Starting
with 1950s predecessors – such as Josef Albers, Norbert Kricke and
Siegfried Cremer – the show considers abstract art developments in
the cities of Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Krefeld, Stuttgart, Berlin and
Munich, but also looks at contiguous Swiss positions. About 60 works
by 28 artists are being presented, all developing a specifically
German Minimalism in the period from 1954 to 1974 in various media
(sculpture, painting, film and drawing)."

About Roland Fuhrmann

Germany - Cottbus
Ends 22.10.2010
From now on new work of Roland Fuhrmann can be visited, which is permanently installed in the entrance hall of the main building of the Brandenburgian Technical University of Cottbus (art-and-construction). It is open week-daily and around the clock (night doormen).
"UNIVERSITAS - Light-Orbiter
diameter 2,20 m (7,35 ft), 40 solar cells, created 2007, realized 2009
A blue ring turns slowly in space. With changing beam of light flares its iridescent surface from silicon crystals. The light-weight construction embodies pure function and associates airship structures and outer space habitats. Noiseless weightlessness dominate the scope. The light orbiter decelerate the speed of light into a contemplative orbit and transfers it as positive load to the viewer."
