Concert with Rüdiger Carl and Sven-Åke Johansson
"In August 1986 a group of artists and musicians from Berlin travelled on a diplomatic mission to Hamburg. The initiator of this artistic expedition code-named Sommerloch was the Kreuzberg-based Künstlerhaus Bethanien. Among the envoys were Thomas Kapielski, Frieder Butzmann, Gudrun Gut and Wolfgang Müller as well as Rüdiger Carl and Sven-Åke Johansson, two well-known propagandists of free improvised music. Touring the Hamburg harbour on a ferry, the local public witnessed a series of performances that convincingly demonstrated the uniqueness of the West-Berlin art scene.
Today, nearly 25 years later, it is the Künstlerhaus Bethanien’s turn to set sail for unknown waters. Taking leave from Mariannenplatz called for due celebration, prompting Sven-Åke Johansson and Rüdiger Carl to perform a farewell concert in Studio 1 entitled "Weitere Dschungelmusik" (More Jungle Music). - Free Admission"

"Pernille Koldbech Fich's creative medium is photography. To date, she has produced mainly portraits, which exude a tremendous psychological and poetic power. The fascination radiating from Koldbech Fich’s photographs lies in the magnetism of her characters surrounded by an impression of loneliness, and in the role into which the viewer is drawn as he puzzles over their history. Taken in a dark interior reminiscent of oil paintings by the old masters, the photographs show a manifest painterly quality, which Koldbech Fich employs to suggest a certain 'timelessness' and therefore universal validity of those mental states depicted."

"Michael Kutschbach has been working with biomorphic forms in his drawings and sculptures for some time now, and also consciously permits himself to be inspired by the formal language of architecture and design. His drawings develop from a large number and variety of forms, which the artist produces using different lead and graphite pencils as well as graphite dust on pre-cut drawing paper. In time-consuming work Kutschbach shades, smears, erases and scratches his way to the finished drawing, using a variety of erasers and rulers. Kutschbach’s constellations of a cheerful scurrility - "combinations of hand axe and intergalactic refuse" (C. Tannert) -, are perfectly suited to the titles that the artist gives them, making wide use of Lewis Carroll's witty play with words as found in his book "Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There"..."

11 artists “in transit” from Canada, the USA, Greece, Chile, Mexico, P.R. China and Germany from the postgraduate program Public Arts and New Artistic Strategies at the Bauhaus University will exhibit work based on the idea of memory and the dissolution of the “white cube”. The “white cube” can be considered a monumentalized term from a globalized Eurocentric perspective on contemporary art. As public artists, the participants have explored the elasticity of the terms's edges, testing for abstract potential, flexibility, and mobility.
This project was developed in relation to the question of how an art space might continue after it is (re)moved from its precarious position within existing architectural structures in a rapidly transforming urban environment: as an idea, a concept, or actual mobile space, possibly floating, disembodied, into the future.

"The exhibition EARLY YEARS at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin wanders through the field of institutional self-reflection. It searches for terms fit to describe the emergence of a museum of art in the present, actual artistic, political, and social discourses. The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw requested for this exhibition the collaboration from artists, with whom it had worked so far, in its pioneering days. The Museum shared its anxieties with the group, and they reciprocated with their share of expectations towards the new institution.
Curated by Sebastian Cichocki, Ana Janevski, Katarzyna Karwańska and Joanna Mytkowska

Minimalism Germany 1960s
Daimler Contemporary
Haus Huth
Alte Potsdamer Straße 5
10785 Berlin
Germany
http://www.collection.daimler.com
Berlin
Ends 30.05.2010
"The initial exhibition at Daimler Contemporary in 2010 will show major
1960s trends in German abstract art from the Daimler Art Collection:
Constructivism, Zero, Minimal Art, Concept and Seriality. Starting
with 1950s predecessors – such as Josef Albers, Norbert Kricke and
Siegfried Cremer – the show considers abstract art developments in
the cities of Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Krefeld, Stuttgart, Berlin and
Munich, but also looks at contiguous Swiss positions. About 60 works
by 28 artists are being presented, all developing a specifically
German Minimalism in the period from 1954 to 1974 in various media
(sculpture, painting, film and drawing)."

"UNIVERSITAS - Light-Orbiter
diameter 2,20 m (7,35 ft), 40 solar cells, created 2007, realized 2009
A blue ring turns slowly in space. With changing beam of light flares its iridescent surface from silicon crystals. The light-weight construction embodies pure function and associates airship structures and outer space habitats. Noiseless weightlessness dominate the scope. The light orbiter decelerate the speed of light into a contemplative orbit and transfers it as positive load to the viewer."
