Call for works
“Autonomies”
Institute for Flexible Cultures and Technologies – Napon
from 3rd untill 22nd October 2013
Novi Sad
http://napon.org

Institute for Flexible Cultures and Technologies – Napon, is looking for works by arts practitioners and others for exhibition “Autonomies”, that will be held from 3rd until 22nd October 2013 at Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina in Novi Sad. The exhibition is a part of Techno-ecologies.

Exhibition concept:

Machine intelligence has been a part of the human imaginarium for more than a century, and the approach to the subject matter is inevitably marked by sci-fi utopian/dystopian scenarios with automatised societies of our near future. The efforts to make machines more independent from the environment, with the possibility of independent action in relation to man, have produced an increase in efficiency, human emancipation from alienating serial production (manufacturing, or later fordist), technological unemployment, and entirely new areas of ecological risks.

V. Summer School of the Multi Media Archives at Freie Universitaet Berlin from August 25th to August 31st, 2013.
•Application Deadline

01.06.2013

Biographical testimonies as sources for scientific research in the context of „Resistance during National Socialism“

With a growing time lag to National Socialism only few survivors will be able to testify first hand. Hence the oral-history-interviews will become increasingly important as memorial as well as scientific sources. Currently testimonies are a strong tool in the portrayal and knowledge transfer of NS history.

Freie Universitaet Berlin provides access to three oral-history-collections: the „Visual History Archive of the USC Shoah Foundation Institute“, the archive „Forced Labor 1939-1945“ as well as the „RefugeeVoices“ archive.

Lectures of several international researchers will examine the term “resistance”, look at motives for resistance acts and deal with methods of oral-history as well as provide insight into European memorial cultures. Excursions to Berlin memorial sites will help to immerse into different aspects.

03.06.2013

Cultural funding structures and their consequences for cultural production and reception

The 8th Annual Conference of the Fachverband Kulturmanagement (German Association for Cultural Management) focuses on the interdependency between financing systems and the production and reception of cultural goods and processes. Artistic practice and cultural activities do not simply happen by themselves, but rather refer – by their results and effects – to their conditions of creation. Which theory-based approaches can cultural management use for contributing to a debate on cultural funding that allows for authenticity, innovation and diversity in the cultural field? How can cultural management influence the forming of support criteria and structures? What financing models, apart from the existing ones, could be envisaged in order to strengthen alternative forms of cultural production?

EYEBEAM RESIDENCY FALL/WINTER 2013 - WHAT IS IMPORTANT NOW?
•Application Deadline

14.06.2013

In light of tectonic shifts in the overlap between art, culture and technology in recent years, Eyebeam is throwing open its Residency program to a single line of inquiry: what is most important now? We are asking you -- the digital creators, hacker artists, creative technologists, instigating curators, researchers and cultural producers -- what are the developments that are most in need of support? What are the ground-breaking works that will positively change cultural relationships to new creative technologies? What does technology even mean in 2013 and how can it be creatively used and misused in a way that pushes boundaries and explodes notions of what is possible? What art challenges dominant media narratives and empowers the public? What projects will blow up stale conversations and scale out in gigantic ways? What is the role of beauty within current technological aesthetics?

Call Type: Residency
Start Date: 09/16/2013
On-site: On Site

Eyebeam will grant a minimum of $4,000 to each selected residency project but will consider requests for additional project-based funding up to an additional $10,000 maximum (to be awarded in stages based on mutually agreed on milestones).

Visually, VIDEOHOLICA [OUT OF FOCUS!] pleads against the idling mainstream tendency “everything to be in focus” and against the luxurious advertising image, which is digitally improved and cleaned up from “mistakes”.
Creatively, VIDEOHOLICA [OUT OF FOCUS!] pleads for a creative approach, which doesn’t follow the convenient slant of the tendencies. It is that approach, which uses allegorical language and speaks about things without pointing them out, describes them between the lines without “focusing” the camera directly in a point.
Politically, VIDEOHOLICA [OUT OF FOCUS!] pleads those alternative views of the problems of today’s society, which are out of focus of the news, and which are not on the agenda of the political analysis

This year's VIDEOHOLICA festival will be composed of the following sections: video art, short films and animation.

VIDEOHOLICA 2013 will again award the following prizes:
First Prize – GOLDEN VIDEOHOLIC
Second Prize – SILVER VIDEOHOLIC
Third Prize – BRONZE VIDEOHOLIC
Award for young Bulgarian author – YOUNG VIDEOHOLIC

The 6th VIDEOHOLICA has a submission fee of EUR 10.

VIDEOHOLICA 2013 will accept both regular mail applications as well as online applications.

VIDEOHOLICA 2013 OPEN CALL will run until 15th June 2013 and all applications are very welcome.

Bodied Spaces – be/verkörperte Räume
Inviting new forms of discussion about the body

We are looking for new forms of viewing the body and its conditions in live performance and video art. The works should emphasize a non-narrative viewpoint on the body and examine opposition between objectivity and subjectivity in an experimental set-up. The question of whether it is possible to experience your own body and another body purely as an object – even though this is a contradiction in itself – provides a basis for the artistic process and eventual outcome.

Photography means drawing with light. Besides the available light we can utilize speedlights to control the quality of the exposure of our photos. We are able to determine the direction and quantity of light by separating the flash source from the camera body.

During this workshop we will use the ‚off-camera‘-flash in combination with daylight. We will discuss approaches and learn the necessary settings on the camera and on the flash unit. Neil Diez Fuentes is showing us in useful exercises how to find the perfect balance between available- and flashlight.

In December 2009 Atis Rezistans, the Sculptors ofGrand Rue, hosted their first Ghetto Biennale. They invited fine artists, film-makers, academics, photographers, musicians, architects and writers, to come to the Grand Rue area of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, to make or witness work that was made or happened, in their neighbourhood. In the words of the writer John Keiffer, it was hoping to be a “'third space'...an event or moment created through a collaboration between artists from radically different backgrounds”. The 2
ndGhetto Biennale took place in December 2011 and seemed, in a contradiction to its aims,to reveal contextual, internal and institutional vulnerabilities to the inequalities that run across race, class and gender, provoking further questioning ofthe way these dynamics play out in an increasingly globalized art world.

faktor kunst 2013 Soziale Prozesse im Freiraum der Kunst | Montag Stiftung
•Application Deadline

30.06.2013

Was wir wollen
