The International Interdisciplinary Conference call for entries: Still Postsocialism?
•Application Deadline
04.02.2013
We are inviting researchers who are working on the topics of cultural,
political, and social aspects of postsocialism. We look forward to
receiving submissions that examine the empirical cases and also make
theoretical and methodological generalizations. The papers should relate
to Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia.
The language of the conference is English.
The application form and short CV should be submitted to:
psconferencekazan(at)gmail.com by February 4, 2013.
http://www.kpfu.ru/main_page?p_cid=19889&p_sub=12621
More than twenty years have passed since the breakup of the Soviet Union
but we are still living in the so-called epoch of "post-socialism".
Rejecting the preceding political order, its long afterlife paradoxically
keepsthis order alive because of its inability to produce new, more
relevant terms of self-definition.

Proposals will be accepted to consider one or more of the following topics, among others:
- Theory, Practice and Criticism of copyright in the digital age
- Hacking, piracy and Free Culture
- Creative Commons and free licenses
- Original, copy and copyright

- Quote, appropriation and copyright

Play the Panorama : Open call for artists working in the field of drawing
•Application Deadline
11.02.2013
Participants who use this special panorama drawing instrument continue to draw a moving landscape. Artists are called upon to contribute their interpretation of the world that surrounds them. When the artist completes his/her drawing, the instrument and the panorama must be passed to the next participant who is geographically nearby and whose work is somehow artistically related to that of the previous participant. This next person will continue the former drawing, blending the new landscape into one continuous panorama.
This is a game played not for winning but for the enjoyment of continuing the play. To share a constantly traveling and infinitely expanding horizon. To develop an astonishing story we cannot finish.

Applicants should be early-career poets, novelists, composers, visual artists, conductors, musicians, choreographers, playwrights, designers, graphic novelists, filmmakers, performers, directors, and performance artists, etc., who would find it beneficial to spend two years working in an artistically vibrant university community.
Fellowships are for two 10-month academic years. Fellows will be in residence for academic years 2013–2014 and 2014–2015 at Princeton, interacting with students, faculty and staff as part of the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Department of Music. The normal work assignment will be to teach one course each semester subject to approval by the Dean of the Faculty, but fellows may be asked to take on an artistic assignment in lieu of a class, such as directing a play, conducting a student music ensemble, or creating a dance with students. Although the teaching load is light, the expectation is that Fellows will be full and active members, committed to frequent and engaged interactions with students during the academic year. This Fellowship cannot be used to fund work leading to a Ph.D. or any other advanced degree.
Application deadline is 15 February 2013.
To apply, please submit materials at https://jobs.princeton.edu/ requisition #1200809.
Next Generation Design Competition - Call for entries
•Application Deadline
18.02.2013
This year we are challenging you to develop solutions that empower, advance, and include groups often overlooked in the design process (including but not limited to, our rapidly increasing aging population and citizens with disabilities). The form is up to you; consider how tech-savvy people are becoming and what devices, materials, and modes of transportation will stay relevant 20 years from now. Keep in mind what other groups will benefit from the design.
Further information:
http://www.metropolismag.com/nextgen/about.php
The Metropolis Next Generation® Design Competition was created in 2003 to promote environmental activism, social involvement, and entrepreneurship in young designers.
Metropolis saw the need for a new type of competition, one that went beyond the usual beauty pageants for finished projects, a competition that would generate and reward ideas. Metropolis celebrates the next generation by rewarding imaginative young designers, be they employed by large companies, those striving with their own young firms or on their own, as well as students.

Call For Papers: Rare Book and Manuscript and Art Libraries Sections
•Application Deadline
18.02.2013
The papers may:
describe new discovery tools or methods
demonstrate innovative ways of managing large visual collections
highlight new areas of research that have resulted from analyzing and using images in innovative ways
Aims of the Session: The session should explore various innovative tools and methods designed to help researchers find and use images that are hidden in books and large cultural heritage collections.
Format: The Open Session will last for three hours. Speakers are restricted to 20 minutes. Afterwards there will be time for questions and comments from the audience. All seven official IFLA languages are admitted for the presentations (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish). Papers in English are preferred because no simultaneous translation is planned for this session.
http://conference.ifla.org/ifla79/calls-for-papers/images-lost-and-found-innovative-approaches-to-discovery-and-use-of-visual-m
Rare books, manuscripts, and special collections contain millions of images that remain largely 'hidden' to researchers because they are not catalogued individually. These include woodcuts, illuminations, emblems, drawings, sketches, paintings, and photographs, all of which are critical to a wide range of research in the humanities. In fact, many researchers focus solely on these images, and not on the texts that contain them. A similar problem exists with large image collections found in a library's special collections, because they are too massive to be catalogued individually. These, too, are difficult to find and use.

Open Call for the 30th Biennial of Graphic Arts
•Application Deadline
20.02.2013
ABOUT
The 30th Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana will highlight some of the evolutions the graphic field has undergone in contemporary times. Print processes, broadly defined here as methods that use a process of transference (that often involve a matrix which allows for multiple incarnations of any one work), have expanded to touch many types of present-day art. While select, traditional media have evolved and adapted to maintain their relevance, others have become primitive formats resigned to oblivion. Still other, newer processes—most notably, digital practices—after a long fermentation, finally seem to have taken a legitimate hold as artistic tools in their own right. This edition will focus on projects that have a renewed, contemporary engagement with traditional means, evolve established processes with fresh applications, or embrace new printerly technologies in high-quality, artistic investigations.

Through the course of events associated with World War II, Mussolini’s Fascism and Hitler’s Nazism were dismantled. Around this time, wealthy business owners and other members of the global elite figured something out: why buy social control via individual, charismatic leaders when you can buy the whole system instead? Performing Artists / Multimedia Residency: Medea Electronique / Koumaria
•Application Deadline
31.12.2013
We are a cooperate group of individual artists that share a predisposition for innovation in performing arts. Working in fields like music, video, design, painting, multimedia, robotics, interactive technology and media production, we allow the integration of our distinctive areas of research and practice to define a unique style in the realization of various projects – from multimedia theatrical plays to experimental audio-visual shows and from electroacoustic compositions to human-machine-computer interfaces.
MedeaElectronique also organises Koumaria Residency, an annual cross-arts residency. www.koumaria.gr
The artist residency Koumaria is based on improvisation and the practices of new media, taking place near the area of Sparta in Greece. Avant garde artists from all over the world, inspired by the Greek natural landscape, create a multicultural and cross-media ‘dialogue’ which leads to a collective presentation of an outcome.
Our target with this residency is the creation of an educational experience for the participants that is going to inspire and exalt their future work. Through the multicultural association a cross cultural dialogue can create new speculations or smelt older ones to an ecumenical level. In the past years, friendly relations or even concepts for new artworks were formed between the residents resulting their further artistic cooperation. Medea Electronique as an original art collective is interested in the procedure and the experimentation of the residency per thus the indagation of new ways to work and cooperate with different people carrying diverse cultural backrounds. For us this experience works as a model for future creative contacts.
Residency duration: 2 weeks
