Teilnehmerinnen gesucht / performance / Nezaket Ekici / Berlin

Residency: Artists Unlimited
•Application Deadline
01.10.2012
One of the founding ideas of Artists Unlimited was to integrate a guest studio into the house. A space in which an international artist could live and work for 3 months. We have had over 70 guests from around the world staying in the house. The rooms for the guest artists are made up of a studio (40 m2) and an appartment (32 m2) with kitchen, washing machine and telephone. The house pays a grant of 550 Euro a month. We do not pay for travelling expenses. One of the conditions of the residency is that every guest artist makes an exhibition in the Artists Unlimited gallery.
For the guest artist scholarships 2013, we will accept applications between the 1st of September and the 1st of October of 2012.
We won’t be able to send out confirmations for applications that reached us successfully. The application can be sent to us physically or digitally to : residency[@]artists-unlimited.de
More details: http://www.artists-unlimited.de/1985/residency/
Artists Unlimited is an artists association and art house that combines living and working under one roof since 1985. The project runs a gallery and a guest studio and has until now financed three-month-grants for 70 guest artists from all over the world. They live in the Artists Unlimited house – a former paper factory building – and exhibit their creations in the projects gallery. Such art funding by artists for artists is rare and has here produced a continuous cultural dialog between regional and international artists. Artists Unlimited is financed by its members and all common activities are done voluntarily.

Seminar
Open call: 2012 Letterpress Publishing Seminar for Emerging Writers
•Application Deadline
01.10.2012
The Center for Book Arts invites applications for our Letterpress Publishing Seminar for Emerging Writers. The next section of this seminar is scheduled for the Fall of 2012. The seminar is tuition free for participants and includes the cost of materials. Those selected must attend the entire five-day workshop. Participants will hear lectures from various professionals in the field – printers, fine press publishers, book artists, and dealers, to get a practical overview of letterpress printing and small press publishing. They will learn the basics of letterpress printing, both traditional typesetting and options with new technology, by collaboratively printing a small edition of broadsides or other projects. This workshop is most suitable for those with little to no previous letterpress experience.
Further info: http://ow.ly/c9Xfr
The Center for Book Arts is dedicated to preserving the traditional artistic practices of book-making, as well as exploring and encouraging contemporary interpretations of the book as an art object. Founded in 1974, it was the first not-for-profit organization of its kind in the nation, and has since become a model for others around the world. Its work is channeled through five program areas: exhibitions related to the arts of the book; lectures on topics of interest to book artists and craftspeople; a modest publication schedule; services to artists, both established and emerging and, much the most prominent currently, an extensive offering of classes.

•Application Deadline

How do artists reflect upon, and even participate in history? Surely some do it consciously, as a subject of focus. Others may have it in mind, without the intention of feeding into or addressing it at all. Whatever the case may be, Manifest offers Lost Horizon as an invitation to artists to submit works of any type of visual art for consideration. Works may be of any media, style, or genre, and may address history from a literal or symbolic standpoint.
Manifest is eager to present and document a broadly compelling exhibition reflecting on history as a concept, and human history as it has, or may yet, occur.

Stonemasons, midwives, Maori astronomers – they all make extensive use of (seemingly) ritual and rather old knowledge about nature and humankind that was handed down from generation to generation. Sometimes the knowledge about methods and techniques utilized by these groups has not only to be relearned but painstakingly extracted from archives first. This winter term, we invite students from all fields of study to enlighten us with their disciplines’ hidden knowledge. Let us all be treasure hunters and bring new, exciting perspectives and groundbreaking perceptions to light!

FUTURE NOSTALGIA - call for projects
•Application Deadline
15.10.2012
The call is open to artists and practitioners from other fields, to Fribourg residents and people from other places, to individuals or groups.
Selected proposals will be realised as a part of the Belluard Festival 2013.
The projects can take place in one of the festival venues, in the public space or in another location in Fribourg.
Projects will be selected by a jury of arts practitioners and experts from other fields.
Selected proposals will be further developed during a residency in Fribourg, in collaboration with specialists from different fields.
The Festival Belluard Bollwerk International and the Migros Culture Percentage are looking for artistic projects that are dealing with
FUTURE NOSTALGIA.
In the last century, modernization processes accelerated to a high degree and along with globalization caused great change all over the world. Nostalgia, the longing for a lost time and space, has become a global phenomenon.
The idealization that comes with nostalgic remembering is often regressively oriented or sometimes even part of dangerous nationalist discourses. However, nostalgia is not only about the past, it can also be prospective, creative and critical. Can we rethink nostalgia? Can we discover a dynamic element in the sentiment? How can we relate to the past in an era where what is valid today is no longer possible in the near future? Tomorrow is so discontinuously different from today that it already escapes the vitalizing force of our imagination.

The Imaginary App -‐ CALL FOR ARTISTS
•Application Deadline
15.10.2012
The goal of this project is to challenge the limits of technological assistance endorsed by the slogan: “There’s an app for that.” What are the most desirable, terrifying, or ridiculous apps that haven’t been and, possibly, will never be released? Formulate a concept of an app. Translate it in the language of design.
Send your work to theimaginaryapp@gmail.com by October 15, 2012.
Submit:
1. app icon (4×4 inches, TIF, 300 dpi)
2. app concept (600 characters max.)
3. bio (100 words max.) + website, twitter (optional)
The works will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:
Concept: originality and critical potential
Design: clarity and aesthetics of presentation
Read more:
http://djspooky.com/imaginaryapp/call/
Paul D. Miller a.k.a. DJ Spooky and Svitlana Matviyenko, editors of The Imaginary App, an anthology of art and scholarship on app-computing, invite artists and designers to submit entries for a traveling art exhibition and publication of selected works in our anthology. Our exhibition will feature original icons of nonexistent apps.
Apps are placed at the tips of our fingers on mobile screens. They offer themselves as channels that navigate us through uncanny media networks and rhizomes. They are shortcuts that guarantee direct and immediate access to what we need beyond the screen. We live in the hope that ubiquitous computing will help us maintain our public and private lives – relationships, work, and leisure – and apps promise to make computation even more seamless and the media environment even more subliminal. If anything, apps reveal how much we depend on this promise when we imagine our being with each other as being with technology.

Vattenfall Fotopreis 2012
•Application Deadline
19.10.2012

Watershed is offering three makers’ residencies to research new projects at the intersection of craft, technology and culture. Delivered in collaboration with the Crafts Council, i-DAT, the Autonomatic research group at University College Falmouth, and supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, this is a unique opportunity to explore process and practice, develop experimental works and make new connections.

There are three residencies available, open to UK-based makers (makers can apply as individuals or groups) from all contemporary craft disciplines. The residencies will be hosted within three distinct collaborative environments in the South West of England: Pervasive Media Studio (Bristol), i-DAT (Plymouth) and Autonomatic (Falmouth). The residencies will support early stage projects that require critical, and technical, investigation and discussion.

Call for entries: MONO NO AWARE VI 2012
•Application Deadline
31.10.2012
MONO NO AWARE is an international exhibition for contemporary artists and filmmakers whose work incorporates Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm or altered light projections as part of a live performance or installation. No digital projections are considered; film and projected light only. We believe there is magic in seeing a film print projected, a presence a poet has when reading their own work, a feeling that resonates in your chest when seeing music performed live. For these reasons we encourage live projections with live additional audio, visual and performative elements.
There is no fee for submissions and no fee for entry. Projection and sound equipment will be made available to those who need it.
Further info: http://ow.ly/c0Hz5
Mono No Aware was intended to be and will remain a not-for-profit event. A small group of local film-makers and artists banned together using money from their own pockets to support this annual exhibition dedicated to artists who create work that incorporates a cinematic element.

The movies must last a minimum of 40 minutes.
The format is Mpeg DVD PAL on DVD video.
Deadline: October, 31

SCREEN because it is conceived as an exploration that detects the audiovisual that happens in the confines of a light zone. PHANTOM because it claims the “ghost” attitude of seeking for something unattainable, without fear of succumbing to media. As a “Festival” in which the movies that explore the limits of visual are projected, extremes in a formal sense but not obvious, carnal without showing carnal flesh represented. It aims a seek for subversions of the audiovisual language, destructive and bordering ideas.
