Parking Day Installations

The Port Credit BIA is seeking artists, art groups, architects, designers and/or engineers to submit proposals to temporarily transform
an on-street parking space in Port Credit into a public space this fall as part of the international event Parking Day (September 21)
and Culture Days 2012 (September 28 to 30).
Up to four Parking Day Installation proposals will be selected with a $500 prize for each winning proposal and a budget of $7,500 for
each winning team to design and construct the structure. We are looking for imaginative ideas to create a vibrant streetscape. The
installations are intended to be both public art and street furniture and shall aesthetically enhance the overall streetscape, providing
space for people in a place usually reserved to park a car.

Sarah Tremlett (videopoet, artist and writer) and Lucy English (poet, novelist and senior lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University), have joined forces to bring together an international forum for discussing and presenting digital narratives at MIXII conference at Corsham Court , Bath July 16th-18th. Sarah, who completed an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University said: ‘With Mark Amerika, George Aguilar, Maria Mencia and Tom Konyves taking part, alongside an Open Exhibition of new and established talent, this a seminal moment both for Bath Spa and for getting to grips with a ground-breaking genre. ’

Conference paper submissions are welcome on all forms of digital narrative – from sky’s-the-limit, interactive storytelling to gaming and conceptual videopoetry; whilst the exhibition theme has been inspired by the recent discovery of a series of Fluxus-related prints at Corsham Court – and the work ‘Liberated Words’ by Eugenio Carmi.

For the exhibition B∃SETZT – Discourse on Art, Politics and Aesthetics, from July 4 to August 4, 2012, PLATFORM3 is organizing a series of events on the topic of occupying strategies in art. Besides lectures by experts and panel discussions, there will also be a screening on the topic of art in urban space. Occupying is no longer exclusive to Wall Street, but has spread across the entire globe as a “silent” expression of protest. We are looking for:
Projects that make full use of the unique opportunities offered. The long stays at HMK lead to intensive local and international collaboration while developing new individual and/or group work for an exhibition or other presentation in HMK and/or in Hoorn. We are also keen on artistic projects that do not only focus on art itself but that, in content or practice, are able to step outside the box and make connections outside an art-context.
HMK focuses on collaborations and group-projects (between 3 and 6 artists); the nature of the collaboration is important to us. Preferably you work with artists or others with whom you haven't (extensively) worked with before.

Things to consider when applying:
We strongly advise you to read into the wider context of Hoorn and HMK prior to submitting a proposal. The context of HMK includes the geographical positioning; a small town setting (eg, absence of an University or a large local art scene/discourse)...

In this budget we aim to offer a small artist fee, free use of the guesthouse and its facilities, possible reimbursement for travel costs and reimbursement of productioncosts.

HMK is responsible for all mail-outs and promotional activity in relation to the shows, which include regional, national and international contacts.

The Watermill Center is a "laboratory for performance" that supports the development of experimental and cross-disciplinary art. Watermill invites emerging artists to submit ambitious proposals for the creation of collaborative work that critically investigates, challenges, and extends the existing norms of performance practice. Commonage Summer School is a two-week design and build programme that explores the potential of building as a collective endeavour. Building on the success of last year’s programme, Commonage Summer School is now an annual event. Manifest is eager to receive proposals of various types, including any genre or media, and accepts these on an ongoing basis, reviewing them starting in early June in consideration for the upcoming season. For the period of the student’s residence at the HBK Braunschweig a rent-free live-in studio will be available. Any incidental costs will have to be borne by the student.

2. The suggested project must embody a material contribution to the ongoing development of the means of artistic expression.

3. Participation in a mentoring program and a scholarship-related colloquium constitute an integral element of the promotion.

4. Upon completion of the scholarship term the student will have to present his/her artistic project in an exhibition or performance or any other equivalent way.

5. As a rule, applicants should not be more than 40 years old and should have a university degree in arts.

From 12 July through 25 August, 2012, IZOLYATSIA - Platform for
Cultural Initiatives in Donetsk (Ukraine) will hold its third annual
artists-in-residence program. We are now accepting proposals from
artists wanting to explore the notion of moving image via the prism of
a determined research theme. Artists working in all media (including
performance and text) are welcome to apply. Although moving image is
the starting point, final projects do not need to conform to
moving-image as a form of video-art. The residency is both process-

The Artist Residencies Enschede (ARE) scheme provides a unique opportunity to develop and realize your creative ideas. In order to qualify for a stay in one of our guest studios you must apply at least six months in advance.

Invited artists are offered the residency at ARE. The length of the residency is three months unless agreed in advance for a shorter or longer period of time, depending of the proposal. The residency includes use of all facilities (private room, studio, computer equipment, wireless internet, kitchen, bathroom, washing machine / dryer, basic tools). ARE provides the resident artists with a material a budget for the final presentation/ exhibition, depending on individual projects, but advises artists to secure additional funding from elsewhere.

Henry Moore Foundation Post-doctoral research fellowship

The Henry Moore Foundation will support a small number of two-year post-doctoral research fellowships in the field of sculpture studies at a British university from the autumn of 2012. Managed by the Henry Moore Institute, these Fellowships assist scholars who have recently completed doctoral studies to prepare a substantial publication or similar research output. The Foundation will award a grant of up to £21,000 per annum towards the fellowship.

Applicants must have an affiliation with a university department who will act as the host to the Fellow. Fellows will be expected to present the development of their work every six months to the Henry Moore Institute, a centre for the study of sculpture based in Leeds.

Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site is currently accepting proposals for its 2013 season of site-specific artist installations.

Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers.
Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world's first true "penitentiary," a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of convicts.

Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious criminals, including bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone.

We invite proposals for presentations about past online performances. Presentations will be programmed into 30 minute timeslots, should be no longer than 20 minutes in duration (10 minutes will be scheduled for questions) and can be done in the Upstage platform (or in another platform if you wish). Presentations could involve webcasting, showing archives, talks, etc. A public chat will be available for interaction between the artists and audience. Klaustrid (the Monastery) is a residence for artists, writers and scholars who come from Icelandic or abroad. The residence is managed by The Institute of Gunnar Gunnarsson. It includes a small apartment and workroom in the unique farmhouse, Skriduklaustur, which was built in 1939 by the famous Icelandic writer Gunnar Gunnarsson.

It is recommended that the resident take part in the life of the disctrict and share his work with the people or show what his is working on as an artist, writer or scholar. The resident can for example be asked to give a lecture or take part in a program, leave a piece of art or whatever he/she and the director may decide.

Duration: The stay should never be less than 3 weeks and never more than 6 weeks. Exceptions are made if there is some unused time in the residence.

The HISK offers a postgraduate course in visual and audiovisual art. The institute provides 24 young artists from Belgium and abroad with a studio of their own for two years. The emphasis at the institute lies on individual practice. The programme aims to achieve a practical balance between study in the studio, discussions with visiting lecturers, workshops, reading groups, field trips and public presentations. The international and culturally diverse composition of the candidate laureate group makes for cross-pollination and dialogue. The diversity of the international visiting lecturers (artists, curators, critics, theoreticians...), provides a framework within which the candidate laureates learn to view their own work with a critical eye. The unique HISK concept allows participants every opportunity to invest in critical research for their work within a broader artistic, cultural and societal context.


Artists who have already obtained a Masters degree in Fine Art or an equivalent qualification are eligible to apply to the HISK. Exceptions can be made for applicants who do not have a Master degree but display a high level of development, motivation and artistic affinity.

The conceptual and visual qualities in the works submitted by applicants are considered to be more important than style, material or technique. Participants are expected to have a strong commitment to conducting critical research within their respective fields of interest. At the same time, they should aim towards locating their practice within a broader perspective of social and cultural environments. Candidates are also expected to make a contribution to the activities of the HISK as a whole.

British Journal of Aesthetics’ 2012 Cover Design Competition

The British Journal of Aesthetics (BJA) holds a competition each year open to students on full-time undergraduate or graduate courses at art and design schools or in fine art/design departments in any country to design a cover for the journal, which is published by Oxford University Press (OUP), both in print and online.

This year's competition is open for entries and all eligible candidates are invited to submit.

The winning design will be used on the cover of the October 2012 issue of the British Journal of Aesthetics (BJA) and the winner will receive lots of other prizes.

The specific brief for this year’s competition is to design a cover for a Special Issue on The Senses, which will explore connections between and connecting parts of the philosophy of perception and aesthetics.

The winning design will be used on the cover of the October 2012 issue of the BJA. The issue will carry a half-page about the winner and his or her work. The winner will receive 5 printed copies of the issue featuring their design, and will also be invited to choose £150-worth of books published by OUP, free of charge. Poetry submissions should be under 300 lines and should include title, author and translators, if relevant. Please submit in pdf or doc format.

Art & Photography

SAND is an English literary journal printed bi-annually in Berlin, featuring prose and poetry as well as translations, art, and photography. The Baltic Goes Digital is an open contest for artworks that utilize web-based, mobile or locative media to create a vision of an imaginary, non-existent ‘Baltic City’. The contest is organized by the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdansk and the Gdansk City Gallery as part of the international ART LINE project, which is co-financed with funds from the European Regional Development Fund operating within the South Baltic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013.

The contest is aimed at artists and people interested in its subject-matter – i.e. graphic artists, designers, architects, programmers – from the Baltic states (Poland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Russia).

The contest is open to artists and anyone interested in its subject matter (e.g. graphic artists, designers, architects, programmers, etc.) from the Baltic states – i.e. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Germany and Denmark.

The teams need to be composed of a maximum of three people. In such a case, at least 1 member needs to be an artist.

WINNERS:
The authors of the 3 winning projects chosen by an international jury will be invited to cooperate with us and complete their works.
Each winning contestant will receive remuneration of EUR 1500 and a budget of EUR 1000 to realize the concept. The organizers will also cover the costs of accommodation and travel to Gdansk for the opening of the Fall 2012 exhibition .

The works will be presented in a virtual gallery, available on the Art Line project website until 2018 and as an exhibition in the Gdansk City Gallery (the Fall of 2012). The winning artworks will be also presented in partner art institutions or during public events.

G39 is an artist-run gallery in the centre of Cardiff, Wales’ capital city. The organisation recently relocated from a narrow three storey building where it originated, to an expansive warehouse. Die Galerie b2 arbeitet seit 7 Jahren als Produzentengalerie auf der
Spinnerei in Leipzig. Sie ist fest verankert in der Leipziger Kunst- und
Museumslandschaft und gilt mit ihrer Programmatik als wichtige, respektable
Instanz für zeitgenössische Kunst in Leipzig. Es bestehen gute Kontakte
zu allen öffentlichen Ausstellungsstätten Leipzigs sowie zu den anderen
kommerziell arbeitenden Galerien.

Die Galerie verfügt über einen 160 qm großen, neu renovierten Ausstellungsraum
auf dem Spinnereigelände in Leipzig und ist insbesondere durch
die halbjährlich stattfindenden Rundgänge fest in die Gemeinschaft der
Spinnereigalerien eingebunden.

EU-PA – European Public Art project

EU-PA is a culture-led city regeneration project. It will research and produce art and interventions and performances in four cities in Europe as a strategy to attract visitors, raise the profile of the districts and bring economic prosperity to the areas.

The Municipality will cover accommodation expenses (for a maximum of 5 nights) and will award a fee of 125 € (gross amount) per day to practitioners participating to the activities. Travels and foods expenses are in charge of the partecipants.

‘We had an idea about the future’ – Time Capsule Workshop

As part of the UCD School of Architecture centenary exhibition opening on June 16th, artist and architect Blaithin Quinn will facilitate a collaborative drawing workshop. Documentation of this event will be placed in a 100 year time capsule. As a starting point please bring an image or an object, that for you represents contemporary design. This workshop will be of interest to artists, architects and designers, including students or graduates.

TransColonia, an independent artist and architect run initiative, was established in March 2010. Initiated as an artistic response to the current recession, TransColonia is part of a growing international trend to re-purpose vacant commercial space for creative uses. An interdisciplinary group of creatives including artists, architects and designers have contributed to the evolving Transcolonia initiative to date.

2 Fellowships for Social Media Artists

Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, VCCA is offering two fully funded, six-week fellowships for artists who are using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube. The fellowships are for artists who are exploring ways to seamlessly integrate the social media platform into the work itself, thus finding new and compelling ways to use social media as a tool of self-expression. The fellowships are accompanied by a $2,000 stipend.
Admission to VCCA is highly selective, based on a review of applications by panels of professional artists. There are separate panels for each category (poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, playwrights, performance, film and video artists, painters, sculptors, photographers, installation artists, composers and cross-disciplinary artists) with over fifty panelists serving at any one time.

The purpose of the residence programme is to host artists and writers who have a specific project to develop in Paris. This project should preferably be carried out in partnership with a previously specified local institution or another structure, company, or artist, in Paris or the surrounding area for artists in the fields of visual or performing arts, and for writers as part of a research project. The project should be developed in Paris, in harmony with the host town and its cultural environment. This residence, which is a privileged period of reflection and creativity for the artist, will contribute to the presence and visibility of international artists in Paris

This programme is intended for individual established writers and artists. The candidates must :
- have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience,
- show evidence of previous work and of an artistic career that is already significantly developed,
- speak French or English,

The FabLab concept was first set out by Professor Neil Gershenfeld at MIT, Boston, USA in 2005.

Put simply, it is the idea that with just a few pieces of technology (e.g. a 3D printer, precision laser cutter) artists can create a huge diversity of 2 and 3 dimensional physical objects designed on their computers and made from a wide variety of materials.

Mural at TnT Scrap on Newtown Creek

Seeks proposals for artwork to be installed on a large corrugated metal fence in Greenpoint, Brooklyn near the Newtown Creek at 1200 Manhattan Avenue.

The fence’s dimensions are approximately 60 feet wide by 20 feet high. Proposed works should integrate ideas about the community, the beauty of the creek, recycling and/or the importance of maritime industrial usage. Artwork should capture the beauty and uniqueness of an industrial waterway in a creatively and impactfully. Artwork must be accessible and appropriate for the general public.

-Chosen artists/collectives will receive a $5,000 honorarium.

-They will also receive a supply budget to be determined based on the project.

Throughout its long and difficult history, the Newtown Creek has been one of the most important waterways in the country. TnT Scrap is looking for artists to capture its historical significance, along with its modern usage. Artists are encouraged to create proposals that fit within the context of the site and create a visual identity for the area.

Brooklyn-based visual artists and collectives working in two-dimensional media are encouraged to apply. Video works will not be considered for this project. Final artwork selection will be made by a panel of community stakeholders.

Mawa3eed: A program for supporting cultural and artistic exchange in the Arab region

The Mawa3eed program, launched in 2006, is a fund for partially financing travel expenses of up to $5000 USD for Arab artists to present artistic work or to take part in cultural and artistic events and activities at multiple, diverse cultural spaces in the region. Designed to support cultural and artistic exchange between artists and independent theaters, galleries, institutes, and other cultural organizations, Mawa3eed is an important opportunity for Arab artists to circulate their creative works through different cultural spaces within the Arab region, and to exchange knowledge and expertise with other artists. It also gives the public the opportunity to appreciate new artistic forms from different countries in the region, enabling diverse cultural spaces to grow their audiences and circulate ideas and forms of expression. Applications are accepted year round, and are evaluated four times a year by a jury of experts from the regional arts and culture community. Since the program’s inception, 67 travel grants have been made to individual artists and groups traveling in the region

Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) is a regional, non-profit organization that seeks to support artistic creativity in the Arab region and to encourage cultural exchanges within this region and with the developing world.

DystoRpia is a neologism developed by the e-fagia collective. The word dystopia is mixed with the Latin root torpere combined with the the word torpid in Spanish. DystoRpia is a critical view of society as anti-utopian community with torpid visions of a vaguely utopian root

DystoRpia deals with people abusing technology, and individually or collectively coping, or not with being able to properly deal with technology that has progressed far more rapidly than humanity's spiritual evolution


Fluid New Media Lab produces art happenings after collecting proposals submitted by artists through open calls. Guest curators review and organize the submitted works, and then we put together a production crew that presents these works in multiple spaces and venues in New York City and abroad. We work with the submitted and accepted proposals for a period of two years, where we organize exhibitions, showcases and workshops with the artists that have participated in our call.

Hilltown New Music Festival 2012 - Call for Music Scores

Hilltown New Music Festival are inviting all composers based in Ireland to submit original works for the Hilltown ensemble-in-residence 2012.
Specifically, we are looking for scores for Soprano, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. The work should use all four musicians of the ensemble and the duration can be up to 7 minutes (max.). Live electronics or fixed tape part are optional.
Selected works will be performed by the ensemble-in-residence in a series of concerts on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July during Hilltown New Music Festival.


Submission requirements:
Performance materials (one score & one set of parts), a short programme note (80 words max.) and a short composer bio (80 words max.), should be sent in hard copy only to the postal address below. No submissions by email accepted on this occasion.

ASPECT: an open submission group exhibition

There may be some size variation for presentation purposes. The work will be presented in a contemporary style to a professional level. The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), a consortium created to promote the Catalan language and culture internationally, has convened a competition to contract a project curator, to prepare an artistic proposal for the Catalonia and Balearic Islands participation for the 55th Venice Visual Arts Biennale 2013, within the Collateral Events programme.
The project's total execution budget will be 300,000 euros. This artistic proposal must conform to the conceptual framework, will have to include newly created work and must represent the Catalan and Balearic contemporary artistic creation mantainig a fertile dialogue with the main contemporary trends.

My name is Ting-Ting Cheng. I am an artist who is having the artist in residency at Glogauair in Berlin at the moment. My practice aims to examine the relationship between foreignness and locality by applying language as the representation of cultures and identity.

In the project “It’s fine, you can talk to me”, I intend to transform the negativity of language barrier between immigrants and local residents into a positive force.

Here, I would like to invite you, as someone from Germany, to tell me a secret, or confess anything that you would like to talk about, but something that you don’t want to other people to know, in German, the language that I don’t understand at all.

In this case, the participants can share the hidden secrets to someone (me), but without worrying that anyone (including me) would know. The secrets still remain as secrets.

Here, the person who cannot understand your language becomes the person that you can trust. I intend to construct an ambiguous relationship in between, a “helpful” but not “functional” conversation.

The process of revealing the secret will be documented by video, but without the audio part. In the final presentation, the audiences will only see the participants talking, without knowing what they are actually talking about.

Open Call to Artists: Hoopla - ‘A sideways antidote to the 2012 Olympics’

As part of our newly planned programme of pop up events the Nunnery Gallery wishes to invite artists to submit video, performance or participatory work that responds to the 2012 Olympics. We are also looking for artists to sell work that creates a spin on the traditional arts market and where you will be able to interact with the public and network with other artists.
The event will be part of CREATE and takes place on Friday 13th July 2012 at Sugarhouse Studios, an island formed by roads and waterways just south of the Olympic Park. Sugarhouse Studios is run by Assemble who have transformed a disused sign-writers workshop into a 50-seat cinema made from recycled wood, an events space and a bar/café.
Submitted work should relate to the forthcoming Olympics in its broadest sense and is an opportunity to bring artists into contact with the public, and exhibit their work to new audiences.

Die Ausschreibung des Offenen Wettbewerbs VORNE FAHRN hat die künstlerische Bespielung von U-Bahnstationen in Berlin zum Ziel. Der Wettbewerb fragt nach künstlerischen Kommunikations- und Interventionsmöglichkeiten im Medium Plakat, die auf den (Hintergleis-) Plakatflächen einzelner U-Bahnhöfe umgesetzt werden sollen.

Diejenigen Künstler_innen, deren Arbeit/en zur Umsetzung ausgewählt werden, erhalten jeweils pauschal ein Honorar in Höhe von € 750,- (incl. MwSt). The Artists’ Residency Programme - Irish Museum of Modern Art’s

The ARP provides opportunities for artists, curators, critical writers and art professionals to research and develop their practices, it supports both emerging and established professionals, working in any medium by application or invitation and is open to Irish and international applicants.
ARP participants have opportunities to engage in ARP Conversations and Open Studio events during their time at IMMA and they get to showcase their ongoing studio practice or previous work made by them in the Process Room for a two week period during their residency.
The duration of residencies at IMMA can range anywhere from two months up to six months, it is generally recommend that three months is a suitable minimum as some resources such as the Process Room or delivering a public dialogue can be limited as a result of a shorter stay at the Museum.
The ARP has a yearly average of 16 participants the majority of whom are selected from an open call for applications once a year.

Guest Editor, Suzie Attiwill is calling for papers for this on the theme of A World in Making: Cities Craft Design as outlined below.

This journal is published by Craft Australia. It explores the nuances of craft - a practice which values making and materiality and this will guide the selection of papers for publication. This emphasis on craft does not exclude design so much as bring focus to practices of design which engage ideas of making and materiality, where there is a sense of a hand(s) in making, a valuing of haptic encounters and an attention to the relation between people and surroundings. From small to large scale projects, from individuals to communities, an intimate approach to the question of how people inhabit and transform the urban environment is invoked. What are the potentials in this century of the city for craft and design practices? What is the contribution of craft and design to cities and liveability? What might a craft sensibility bring to urban inhabitation?

Academics, practitioners, research students and others are invited to submit research papers and critical project works. A definition of research as 'the creation of new knowledge and/or the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings' is reiterated here to highlight the criticality of 'new and creative' in relation to research and to encourage the submission of research through craft and design practice, as well as about craft and design practices situated in a world in making - 'the century of the city'. Authors are also encouraged to consider the inclusion of visual material as research.

UNESCO has launched the third call for applications for funding from the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD). The purpose of the IFCD is to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction in developing and least-developed countries that are Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The IFCD supports projects that aim to foster the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector, primarily by facilitating the introduction of new cultural policies and cultural industries, or strengthening existing ones.

The international film submission for the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival 2012 is now open. The 2012 Scottish Mental Health Film Festival is currently inviting submissions for the 2012 awards.
If you have a film or film project that is underway or completed and links to mental health, then the organizers want to hear from you.
This annual open film submission gives film-makers the opportunity to share their work and ideas with audiences across Scotland and internationally.
In its broadest sense ‘mental health’ is a term which touches most aspects of our lives; from our relationships to how we respond to the world around us. The organizers are looking for films which show that a mental health identity is something we all have, and something we all need to prioritize from time to time.
Films can address specific mental health issues, but may also encourage innovative and diverse perspectives.


Previous winning submissions have looked at topics such as moving home, aging, grief, loss, endurance, support, friendship, equality, sport, music, childhood as well as films about specific diagnoses or conditions.
The sixth annual Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival (2012) will take place across (theaters, cinemas, libraries and community halls in) Scotland throughout October 2012.
In 2012, winning films will also be announced in several different categories.

Art in the Round: New Approaches to Ancient Coin Iconography

Our understanding of Graeco‐Roman coinage is inextricably linked to the study of the images on those coins and the messages that they conveyed. Designs on coins provide insights into the nature of ancient visual culture and the societies in which such images were deployed and consumed. Recent iconographic studies have acknowledged that images on coins must be studied in concert with texts and the material context of their bearers, requiring a new set of interpretative methodologies and research agendas.
New research has demonstrated that by treating coin images in the Greek and Roman worlds as a part of a semantic system and by considering the archaeological evidence, we gain a better understanding of the importance, meanings, and functions of images on coins.

Due to the existence of varied research traditions, the international workshop ‘Art in the Round’: New Approaches to Ancient Coin Iconography aims to explore new directions in the study of iconography on Graeco‐Roman coinage by gathering scholars from different academic perspectives. Numismatists, Classicists, Historians, Archaeologists and Art Historians are invited to present their research in order to contribute to this timely topic. Papers that explore methodology or specific topics or themes are welcome.

SELECTION PROCESS
Even though the themes of the transmediale are set by the curatorial team, the focus of the individual programmes are further developed in relation to the works submitted in response to this call for works. In this way we strive to create a dialogue between the thematic ideas and current artistic practice. The final programme of the festival eventually consists of a mix of invited participants, projects of our all-year platform (reSource - transmedial culture berlin) and contributions selected through the call. The review process lasts until the end of August.

In mid September, a list of the entries selected through the call for works will be published on http://www.transmediale.de. No further notification will be given to those applicants who were not selected.

Creative Encounters: Cultural Partnerships between Asia and Europe

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and partners are supporting new artistic and networking collaborations in the framework of the Creative Encounters: Cultural Partnerships between Asia and Europe 2012-2013 programme. Art and cultural organisations are invited to submit proposals by 30 June 2012 for the second edition.

The Creative Encounters programme supports multi-lateral projects in various disciplines of contemporary arts including performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, film and new media as well as cross-disciplinary and networking projects.

The programme will foster engagement across cultures through artistic collaborations, exchanges and dialogues. This will deepen mutual understanding between the cultural communities of the two regions.
ASEF’s Creative Encounters is in partnership with Arts Network Asia (ANA) and Trans Europe Halles (TEH).

The selected projects will take place between 1 October 2012 and 30 September 2013.

Turbulence commision call: emerging and established artists

Up to twenty net art projects are commissioned and presented on Turbulence annually.

You may send proposals throughout the year. Commissions are generally announced twice a year. Upcoming Deadlines:

All Practitioners: June 30, 2012

Commissioned projects must be completed within nine months.

Who

Commissions are available to “emerging” and established practitioners.

How Much

The commissioning fee is generally $2,000 to $4,000.
Conditions

The completed project will be presented exclusively on the Turbulence web site for three years. The artist retains copyright to the work. The artist grants NRPA the non-exclusive right to archive and present the project in perpetuity.

What We’re Looking For

The goal of these commissions is to support work that creatively explores the Internet as a site of production and transmission. This includes work by individual artists and collaboratives; work that uses the net as a repository and work that explores its possibilities as a conduit. Or both. All artists are encouraged to consider how their project advances creative use of the network.
