Truth is concrete
•Application Deadline
01.07.2012
It is a 24-hour, 7-day marathon camp: 150 artists, activists and theorists lecture, perform, play, produce, discuss, collect artistic strategies in politics and political strategies in art. All day long, all night long. It is a platform, a toolbox as well as a performative statement, an extreme effort at a time that seems to need some extreme efforts. The marathon is a machine, running in the centre, inspiring and frustrating. Surrounded by a camp-like living and working environment as a social space, that defines its own needs and demands. Having to miss is part of having to make choices.
A full grant program invites additionally 100 students, artists, activists and theorists and from all over the world. In an attempt to not create just another event about politics, but a political event itself, the festival also investigates its own format and its own everyday decision making.

The philosophy of the IFK is founded on the principles of clarity, communication and interdisciplinary exchange. The transparency of its organizational structure is not an end in itself, but aims to let visiting scholars and future academics make contact with one other. Centers such as the IFK make it possible to pursue one's own academic projects away from the workaday routine of the university. A Digital Stitch in Time
•Application Deadline
01.07.2012
Calling all artists whose practices are at the intersection of art, craft and digital technologies to be considered for inclusion in a forthcoming article about artist projects employing needlecraft techniques to translate, redefine and recontextualize images and lexicon sourced from digital and virtual culture.
No longer reserved for our grandmothers, needlecraft has become a subversive tool of counter-culture, interrogating knowledge and meaning, while encouraging an intimate participation with the digital through a laborious, and social process.
Whether it is revealing the underlying relationship between computer coding and embroidery patterns, or documenting the digital landscape through a portrait of cotton cross-stitches, we consider the meaning of “social networks” and participatory production as artists explore collective meaning and ownership in the digital age.
If you are interested in having your work considered for inclusion in the article, please email an artist statement, CV and link to images of your work to: digitalstitching@gmail.com

In this state of imbalance, of “deconstruction” and crisis, the most serious risks lie both in the choice of methods and analytical tools and in a misunderstanding of the origins of the crises, their causes, their consequences and their long-term effects.
MutaMorphosis II thus proposes to “play the role” of a probe furnished with a panoply of configurable tools.
It thus proposes not only to carry out observations, exchanges and analyses in connection with contemporary developments, but also to produce and present concrete experiments, to provide support for innovative collaborations and co-productions, associating groups of researchers from various disciplines so as to be in a better position to capture certain forms of the hybridisation of “cultures, knowledge and different forms of expression” and to understand present-day mutations.

International Conference: New Forms of Multiple Belonging
•Application Deadline
10.07.2012
– Multidisciplinary Perspectives, Lucerne 26-27 October 2012
Since Georg Simmel we are used to see modern individuality as being formed and character-ized by the fact that each person belongs to a multiplicity of different and overlapping social “circles” (groups, communities or organisations). Modern individuality and multiple belong-ing are thus seen as resulting from the processes of functional differentiation within modern societies. At the beginning of the 20th Century there were fears that this phenomenon endan-gers social cohesion and individual coherence. Later on it has been realized that functional differentiation and membership in distinct and overlapping communities and organizations is not only a productive feature of a dynamic society but that most individuals learn to cope with the resulting difficulties and to exploit the opportunities of their multiple belonging.
Recently, we discover forms of multiple belonging of a different kind: individuals belong to multiple communities or organizations that are functionally identical or at least highly similar: citizens who are members of two or more national polities (dual citizens); circular migrants and mobile workers who are connected to two or more cities/societies/economies; children who are embedded in two families when their parents split up and formed new separate but overlapping families; scholars who are affiliated with more than one university, believers who’s religious practices go beyond the canon of one religion and so on.

At the beginning of the 21st century these new forms of multiple belonging are getting recog-nized in the public and scholarly discourse.

Cabinet Exhibition: Calling for artist submissions
•Application Deadline
10.07.2012
Cabinet Exhibition is a group show that presents the work of several international emergent artists. Based on the concept of the early modern ‘Cabinets of Curiosities’, this exhibition draws together painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video and other more contemporary practices, all arranged in a unconventional display. The result is a sort of arrhythmic mosaic intended to present a panoramic view of art production nowadays.
This exhibition aims to be an immersive experience for the curious visitor who will face an unorthodox eclectic selection of artworks, from street art brought into the gallery to paintings on ham and visual soundscapes, amongst others. The dialogue between the artworks displayed will favour new analogies and comparisons, leading the visitors to make fresh associations and come out with new ideas.
We are looking for artists willing to be a part of the project. The exhibition will be held at the Islington Arts Factory from the 14th-21st September 2012
To apply please send us a sample of your work (a portfolio or website, flickr, etc.), a CV and a short text about your practice to cabinetexhibition@gmail.com.
The deadline for applications is 10/07/2012.
For more info, please go to http://cabinetexhibition2012.wordpress.com or write to us on cabinetexhibition@gmail.com
Cabinet Exhibition welcomes all kinds of artworks, of any subject and media. This is an independent, low-budget project, open to everyone to apply. Initially, we cannot cover transport costs or any other expenses.

OPEN CALL 2012- PES 2012: Behind The Fence
•Application Deadline
10.07.2012
Project For Empty Space’s 2012 Season, PES: Behind the Fence marks the start of a new initiative in our programming repertoire as we forray into the digital viewing arena as a seasonal alternative to the usual physical installations. The departure comes from a new exploration of community development and interaction with spaces that are not truly ‘empty’ or accessible. This project will explore the interaction of art and community as they relate to ownership and accessibility.
Project For Empty Space, seeks proposals from artists that address the idea of a discarded space, that is infact, not discarded. The proposal should eventually present interventions that explore what it is like to be outside the fence and unable to create within that which has been ‘abandoned’.
Please send all required material to info[@]projectforemptyspace.org.
For further info: http://ow.ly/bEdZU
Project For Empty Space is a non-profit organization, co-founded and co-curated by Meenakshi Thirukode and Jasmine Wahi that is dedicated to bringing Contemporary art to a multitude of communities through the utilization of abandoned and unusual urban spaces. Koumaria: New Media Art Residency
•Application Deadline
15.07.2012
We invite applications from artists working across the spectrum of new media arts (musicians, dancers-performers, video artists, photographers, e.t.c.) to participate in the residency. We will select up to 6 participants from the applications received. We are excited by the fact that innovative artist Miya Masaoka will be in attendance for the end of the residency to both work with the residents, and participate in the collective work. It is possible that other guest artists may “drop in” during the course of the residency.
The residency provides:
-transportation from Athens to the residency and back.
-housing and food supplies in Sparta.
-Internet connection while in Sparta residency.
-housing in Athens during the presentations.
Further info: http://ow.ly/c8ts0
Since 2009 the artist collective Medea Electronique has organized an annual 10-day experimental artist residency, Koumaria, near Sparta in Greece, focusing on improvisation and new media practices. Avant-garde artists from all over the world, inspired by the Greek natural landscape, come together to create a multicultural and cross-media ‘dialogue’ culminating in a collective presentation in Athens at the end of the residency. Past residents have formed lasting friendships and new artistic partnerships. For us the residency serves as a model for future creative collaborations.
The goal of the residency is the creation of an educational experience for the participants that will inspire and exalt their future work.

MOSTYN OPEN 18: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
•Application Deadline
30.07.2012
Since its inception in 1989, the Open has functioned as a call-out to artists of any age, geographical background and residing place to enter, with an exhibition of the selected artworks taking place at MOSTYN, and a prize of £10,000 awarded to a single artist or collective. While continuing in this tradition, the 18th edition will also bring a fundamental addition. A prize of £1000 will be given to the ‘People’s Choice’, which will be determined by the artist or collective who receives the most votes from the visiting public during the exhibition’s run. In doing so, the questions that will be raised, and central to this renewed edition, are: How do we examine and judge works of art? What criteria do we bring to perceiving, interpreting and understanding artwork? What really makes our favourite?
Further info: http://ow.ly/cc1W3
In its five galleries MOSTYN shows varied and exciting exhibitions which showcase the best contemporary art being produced in Wales and bring to Wales some of the most interesting art being made internationally. Mostyn does not have a collection but displays a wide range of exhibitions which change every two months or so, and vary from large-scale shows to small projects and video projections. A notable feature is regular exhibitions by artists from Africa and Latin America.

Following the renovation of a large factory in Karlín, a former industrial quarter in Prague 8, there was created a unique complex of art studios and galleries called Karlin Studios that became the first of its kind in Prague. The founder and initiator of this non-profit project is FUTURA, o.s., which is also one of the members of the Karlin Studios civic group.
The FUTURA Centre for Contemporary Art is a three-floor exhibition space with a total area of 1,000 m² located in Prague's Smíchov quarter. Work from numerous renowned and internationally respected artists from abroad as well as from the Czech Republic has been presented here since 2003. During its relatively short existence the FUTURA Centre has put on dozens of exhibitions with international content using its own curatorial personnel, as well as in cooperation with other galleries, institutions or guest curators.
