The Institute for Human Sciences and ERSTE Foundation encourage translators in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Cultural Studies to apply for the prestigious Paul Celan Fellowship. The program aims to overcome deficits and asymmetries in the exchange of ideas and reception of scholarly literature which result from the division of Europe in the 20th century. Therefore, the Paul Celan Fellowships support Western to Eastern translations, or between two Eastern European languages, and especially Eastern to Western translations of canonical texts and contemporary key works in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Studies. Special emphasis is put on translations of relevant works written by East European authors and/or by female gendered scholars. A thematic relation to one of the IWM’s research fields is likewise welcomed.

In the last ten years, interactive media have increasingly become part of the exciting new field of computational culture. Computation can no longer remain the property of specialised expertise. We believe that coding, programmability and modelling are investing culture by operating as open-source forms of knowledge, aesthetic and power. Interactive media are for us agents of computational cultures ready to re-formalise the way in which we see theory and practice.

Manifest continues its eighth season with an exhibit seeking works which explore the theme of plant life (using formal or conceptual methods). These may be in ways that are quite straightforward, or which are abstract, conceptual or in other ways surprising or inventive. An International Exhibit Exploring the Theme of Plant Life
Deadline: March 7, 2012
At one time the world of living things was classified into two simple groups, plants and animals. Botany concerned itself with the study of plants. We are linked to these, our earthly cousins, in so many ways. As a planetary phenomenon we take for granted that to our yin the plants provide the yang. We breath in oxygen and out carbon dioxide, they absorb carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. Clearly an elegant arrangement was agreed upon by the forces of the Universe to arrive at such a symbiosis. Whether it be the form of organic plant life, or the concept of its functionality, the implications of its shared existence with humanity, or its clever ability to convert sunlight into food, plant life is as fascinating as it is beautiful. In the context of contemporary society it is interesting to consider what this can mean in the hands of artists.

Experience Experiments
•Application Deadline
10.03.2012
Intrigued by the emotional content of a tear, an ongoing element of my work involves the systematic collecting of tears from the public, making an homeopathic remedy from the collected tears; as each tear is a like a snowflake has its own unique fingerprint. This project was started during my degree, from research into water memory in the form of an installation 'Teardrops in Wonderscape'. I am now exploring this in other directions; One is with a chemistry department and the other is with a homeopath.
The remedies will be made as visual artwork and then given as a homeopathic remedy within the homeopathic framework. The entire process - from tritration to proving - will be documented, as well as work created from the research. The project will culminate in an installation and book.
It will be anonymous, you can include a note about your tears if you wish but there will be no published details about your tears; pain or joy.
Please see http://www.ruthlegear.com/ for more details.

I need people to collect tears for a number of experiments; happy
tears, sad tears, tears of grief and joy. If you wish to donate your
tears please contact me at ruthlegear @ gmail.com
and I will send you a tear collecting package
Deadline to sign is March 10th
and to send the tears back by March 30th.
Part of my practice explores water and homeopathy and the intersections where this exploration becomes a synesthaesic metaphor within a formal artistic framework.
I intend to collect experience, creating aesthetic metaphors, making
the intangible tangible. This concept will be explored for my part through different media, sound, photography, video installation...

SUMMER SESSION DATES
26 June - 31 July 2012
PICTURE BERLIN, founded in 2009, is a hybrid residency/art academy. This unique artist-initiated program encourages participating artists to take part in an active discourse in issues surrounding art and contemporary photography while simultaneously giving the artists a chance to develop their work. This perspective is unusual within a European residency context as the program facilitates each individual approach by offering close mentoring from internationally practicing artists and free-lance curators based in Berlin. This upcoming summer will mark the third Summer Session. Due to the success and enthusiasm of the last two summers, PICTURE BERLIN has been officially extended by 1 week to bring the program to a full 5 weeks.

Create Change Public Artists in Residence not only participate in the program’s professional development component, but also are resourced to apply this learning through a site-specific project in their local laundromat. In 2012, as part of the project Zebrastraat and following the first three biennials, the Liedts-Meesen Foundation will organize update_4 update. In this update_4 we would like to keep and strengthen the philosophy of the past, and at the same time we would like to emphasize new trends. In the past, the exhibitions were associated with the New Technological Art Award Liedts-Meesen which enjoys increasingly more interest from the artists and the public. For this reason we wish to enhance the importance of this competition through the following measures:
- A new set of rules that is stricter but more focused on the contribution of new technologies to art
- The number of nominees having the chance to show their artwork to the public increases from 10 to 20,
- Finally, the works will be presented at three different locations: the Zebrastraat in Ghent, La Cambre in Brussels (with Caroline Mierop, Director; works will be exhibited outside only) and iMAL, also in Brussels (Yves Bernard).

Visit: The artist in residence programm of the REW Foundation
•Application Deadline
31.03.2012
The »visit« programme of the RWE Foundation promotes young artists by offering them a free space for pursuing individual design work. At the invitation of the Foundation, the selected artists develop their respective project over a period of about three months. Depending on the topic, this takes place at a German or also possibly an international location of the company. The artistic work should have an explicit reference to RWE, the topic of energy, and its social relevance. The objective of the programme is to initiate a reciprocal involvement between the company and artists. Interdisciplinary approaches and switching perspectives promote the understanding of different lines of thought and help us to learn from one another.
