Open Empty Spaces is an artist-led curatorial project promoting the creation of temporary non-gallery based exhibiting spaces in the public realm in cities throughout the UK. Open Empty Spaces is currently inviting proposals from visual artists, at any stage in their career, working in any medium, to produce site-specific, temporary artworks for a project taking place in April 2011.

The project will take place in two sites simultaneously; in Cardiff Central Market and in Ridley Road Market, Dalston, East London and artists are required for both sites.

2011 Artists in Residence Program at I-Park,

Residencies are offered to creative individuals working in the following disciplines: Visual (including Environmental) Art, Music Composition/Sound Sculpture, Moving Image, Creative Writing and Landscape/Garden Design.

Work samples are evaluated through a competitive, juried process.

There is a $30 application processing fee required.

Accepted artists are responsible for their own work materials as well as transportation to and from the area.

The facility is otherwise offered at no cost to accepted artists, including a basic meal program where most, though not all, of the food is provided.

Accommodations at I-Park include comfortable private living quarters in an 1850's era farmhouse and a private studio on the grounds. An abundance of power tools and equipment, musical instruments and peripherals, site materials, an electric kiln, wireless internet and library facilities are provided.

The Limited-Residency MFA program in Photography at the Hartford Art School is designed to attract mature practitioners in the field from all over the globe.

The program couples intensive on-campus sessions during the summer with a travel component in the spring and fall. The three summer sessions meet at the University of Hartford for two-weeks, during which students and faculty interact inside and outside the classroom. The fall and two spring sessions meet at off-site locations (New York City, Berlin, and other sites) for seven-to-ten days. In the time between classroom sessions, students complete course assignments and maintain regular contact with their Thesis Advisor. The total time to the MFA is twenty-five months, of which only ten to twelve weeks are spent away from your studio.

Ex Oriente Film Workshop 2011

Ex Oriente Film is a year-long international workshop that supports the development and funding of creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. At three workshops (the 4th session focused on rough cuts is for selected projects only) directors and producers develop their projects and funding strategies and benefit from the assistance and valuable advice provided by established European producers, directors, AV experts and commissioning editors. Prefabricated tenting structures have proliferated in the last years as the only solution to temporary affordable outdoor shelter. The resulting landscape of street fairs or temporary events throughout cities and neighborhoods has been a spatially, geometrically, chromatically, and materially homogeneous environment that simply enables activities to happen without generating a playful engagement with the city or its citizens.

This competition asks for designs that envision street tents not only as shelters but also as active elements within the collective construction and understanding of the city. The Festival of Ideas for a New City is a major new collaborative initiative between scores of downtown organizations, from large universities to arts groups and community organizations, working together to affect change. Curatorial studies at Node Center Berlin: Call for applications

The Node Center for Curatorial Studies is a platform of formation, experimentation, and diffusion in the field of curatorship and in the contemporary artistic practices.

Node is launching a Curatorial Studies Residency Program for research and practice in curatorial studies. The program understands curatorship as exhibition praxis, allowing direct experimentation with the exhibition space. Additionally, the program will be reinforced with activities such as workshops, seminars, meetings with cultural agents, art shows, and visits to exhibition spaces.

Moreover, participants are expected to take an active role in organizing the program (i.e., managing seminars, workshops, guest lectures, exhibitions, etc.).

The residents registered within the Node Center's studies program will develop specific theoretical-practical research during their residency. Each quarter, the center will be immersed in a specific line of research.

During the period of March-June 2011, the line of the program will be: "The logic of the limit: transversal curatorial processes". The different lines of research explore the curatorial practices that expand their own mechanisms beyond the normal "taxonomic" processes of the art exhibition (i.e., classification, study, and exhibition), generating new discursive possibilities.

During that period, the residents will enjoy a shared office to develop their own theoretical investigation, and an experimental practice area for exhibitions.

Neons Project Geneva: Call for Proposals

Artists are invited to submit proposals for a luminous artwork.

The contemporary art funds of the city and canton of Geneva (FCAC and Fmac) are innovating in the sphere of public art by commissioning luminous artworks to be displayed for a ten-year period. The project already boasts six installations, by Sylvie Fleury, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Nic Hess, Christian Jankowski, Jérôme Leuba and Sislej Xhafa. Two additional luminous works, along with an exhibition, symposium, and publication, are scheduled for March 2012.

For the first time, curators can apply for the position of annual guest curator of the Abraaj Capital Art Prize. This position allows the winning curator to work directly with the five winning artists on the development of their artworks over the production period, culminating in an exhibition during Art Dubai 2012. The Zabludowicz Collection is delighted to announce the second Zabludowicz Collection Curatorial Open, a major opportunity for curators to work with a contemporary art collection of international repute.

Continuing its commitment to working with artists and curators, the Zabludowicz Collection launched this annual initiative to encourage and support experimental curatorial practice. The Curatorial Open invites creative professionals to engage with the collection and propose a project for public exhibition and an accompanying publication and programme of events at 176 Prince of Wales Road to be realised in July and August 2012. The Curatorial Open seeks to actively engage new voices in the discussion around works in the Zabludowicz Collection, encouraging points of view from a variety of disciplines and transcending the confines of contemporary art curating.

Applications are invited from all arts professionals between 1 August and 1 November.

The Guapamacátaro Interdisciplinary Residency in Art and Ecology

The program was founded in 2006 by Mexican artist and curator Alicia Marván,
as an extension of her artistic practice. Its conceptual and artistic framework includes ecology in its broad sense, not limited to its common association with the preservation of the natural environment. All components of the local ecosystem (human, natural and artificial) and their relationship to each other are subject of inquiry, creativity and growth.

STOP & GO 3-D Show San Francisco: Open Call

Stop & Go is a program of innovative stop-motion animations by contemporary visual artists and filmmakers, touring and screening internationally since 2008. The program showcases animations that use stop-motion techniques to explore visual language, tell stories and make poignant social commentaries. New animation work is being sought for the third installment of the program called Stop & Go 3-D. The program will screen hand-rendered stereoscopic and anaglyphic experiments that explore traditional 3-D animation produced using stop-motion. Animations that experiment with geometrical elements, pieces that are highly optical or those that comment on the current 3-D craze will also be reviewed.

Entry of materials:
The animation’s total running time must not exceed 10 minutes. All entries must be produced in 2008 or later. If your animation is not in English, please provide English language subtitles. Artists must secure all copyrights to the work including any musical soundtracks.

Send entry submissions on a DVD-NTSC disc—please, no PAL discs. If your submission is accepted, a data-file format DVD or Mini-DV tape will be required for inclusion in the master-screening reel. Each submitted work should be labeled with the title of the piece, running time, name of project director and contact information. Please do not put stickers on the DVDs.

Fees & Costs:
There is no entry fee to submit your work to Stop & Go. All costs for mailing the materials to Stop & Go are at the expense of the participant. Discs will be returned only if a self-addressed envelope and appropriate postage cost is enclosed. If no SASE is enclosed, then it is understood that Stop & Go may keep the disc for their library. Stop & Go does not take responsibility for any loss or damage of the work during shipment. Please do not send original copies.

Tour:
The last two installments of the show, Stop & Go and Stop & Go Rides Again, toured extensively, including venues in the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel and Croatia. The Darat al Funun Dissertation Fellowship for the Study of Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab World

Darat al Funun-The Khalid Shoman Foundation is honored to announce the
establishment of a dissertation fellowship to encourage research on modern
and contemporary art of the Arab world. The fellowship provides financial
support of up to ten thousand dollars to Ph.D. candidates in the
humanities and social sciences. One to three fellowships will be granted.
The fellowship duration can range from 4-12 months of residency at Darat
al Funun in Amman, Jordan.
Fellows are expected to pursue their own research, give at least one
public lecture, and participate in Darat al Funun s cultural and artistic
activities. Upon completion of the fellowship, fellows are required to
submit a five to seven page research report that will be available on
Darat al Funun s website.

Fellowship funding is intended to compensate travel and stipend expenses.

Women's Studio Workshop

The grant includes a stipend of $2,000 to $3,000 for six to eight weeks, materials up to $750, access to all studios, travel costs (within the Continental US), and housing. Projects are chosen by a jury of outside artists and curators.

Generally, we encourage an edition size no larger than 100 and no smaller than 50. WSW has developed a series of archive and exhibition opportunities for the books. The contract stipulates 10% (or ten books) for WSW archives, exhibition, and display copies; 10% of the edition for the artist; and 80% of the edition for general marketing. Artist have the option of collaborating with WSW on marketing of artists' books for a 50% commission fee. WSW has artists' books in collections world-wide and six institutions are repositories of all the artists' books published by WSW. The repositories are: Indiana University (Bloomington), Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Delaware, Vassar College, Virginia Commonwealth University and Yale University.

Founded and run by women to serve as a supportive working environment for all persons interested in the arts. Est-Nord-Est is an artist-run centre which offers, through its residency program, technical support and a critical context to artists engaged in the processof research / creation. A 10,000 euros grant awarded to a young artist for studies abroad

The Jean-Claude Reynal Foundation, under the auspices of the Foundation of France, in collaboration with the Fine Arts School of Bordeaux, offers an annual grant of 10,000 euros to enable a young artist, who works directly on paper, to travel to a country of his/her choice for a period of 6 months maximum.

Conditions

Candidates must be between 20 and 30 years of age and have had an artistic practice on paper for at least two years. All artists are eligible regardless of educational background or nationality.

50% of the scholarship money will be paid before departure and 50% at the time and place of the residency.

The prize winner authorizes the Reynal Foundation to use a work of his/her choice on the media announcing the following year’s scholarship competition. The chosen work will be approved by the executive committee.

PILOTENKUECHE artist residency - Spring 2012

PILOTENKUECHE is an Artist Residency Program based on group dynamic. Six-to-eight artists each work on their individual projects during a three-and-a-half month period at the Spinnerei in Leipzig. Each has their own working area within the 312 m2 (1,023 ft2) communal studio. Every Round of the residency ends as a group exhibition during one of the three gallery weekends at the Spinnerei.

PILOTENKUECHE wishes to provide our participants with the experience of accomplishing something as a group; and, moreover, in experimenting with new forms of cooperation vital in fostering an independent position in one's work.

We encourage the participants to work and be present on site as much as possible during the duration of the residency. When committing to this project, the artist must agree to stay the duration of the term (it is not possible to stay just a few weeks, etc.) Regardless, the participant is responsible for paying the entire participation fee.

Accommodation and travel costs are not provided, but we can help you finding a room and organizing your stay in Leipzig. Although PILOTENKUECHE is a non-profit project, there is a participation fee of 900 Euros to be paid by each artist to cover the costs of the studio space and advertising the round of the residency.
The three project terms each year are:
February - May
June - September
October - January.
Applications should contain a CV, photos and a short text about your work and work intentions for the project term, as well as to state in which term you wish to participate. Participants will be chosen by a jury and informed within two weeks.

Smack Mellon's Artist Studio Program, Brooklyn

Smack Mellon offers free studio space to eligible artists for an eleven-month period. The program provides artists working in all visual arts media a free private studio space and a $5000 fellowship (dependent upon funding). The program does not provide living space. Artists also have access to three shared common areas: a state-of-the-art digital production lab; a fabrication shop, and a kitchen/lounge area. The 2012-2013 Studio Program will be housed on the lower level of Smack Mellon's building at 92 Plymouth Street.
Studios range in size from 250 to 300 square feet. Not all studios have windows. Artists choose their studios through a lottery system. Artists who are accepted into the program must be prepared to actively use their studio a minimum of 50 hours a month or they will lose it.

All applicants must be US citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States, 18 years or older, may not be enrolled in any degree program and must be able to demonstrate need for a studio. Applicants may not be a resident artist in another studio program at the same time as the 2012-2013 Smack Mellon residency.

Selection Process
A panel of arts professionals and artists will review applications and select artists for the 2012-2013 season. Artists will be selected based on the quality of their work and their potential for making the most of their time in the program. The selection process will be completed by the end of February 2012. All applicants will be notified by email. Please do not call the office for selection results.

We will talk about censorship today and we will essay topics for an ideal contemporary Zine.

After her one-year-long job experience at MNAC - National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest (thanks to the European 'Leonardo da Vinci' grant), she is now dedicating her PhD research to the experimental Video Art in Romania in the Seventies and Eighties during the Ceauşescu’s dictatorship (Freie Universität, Berlin).

Open Call for submissions: Temple Bar Gallery + Studios International Residency Programme

TBG+S invites applications from Irish artists for residencies at HIAP-Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme and the “Kulturbunker” residency in Frankfurt City East Harbour.

In 2012, Temple Bar Gallery and Studios (TBG+S) will embark on the third year of an international residency exchanges with The Culture Department of Frankfurt City and the fifth year of the well-established international residency exchange with HIAP–Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme. This year for the first time, TBG+S is selecting artists for these opportunities by way of a competitive open submission process. Professional artists born or living in the Republic of Ireland are eligible to apply for both.

ISP 1: The Dublin-Helsinki exchange takes place from 1 July – 30 September 2012. The deadline for applications is Thursday 1 December 2011, 5.30pm.

In keeping with our mission to promote the greater appreciation and understanding of the fine art print, IPCNY presents a selection of new prints several times per year. New Prints 2012/Winter will be the 41st New Prints Exhibition and the 6th in IPCNY’s new Gallery at 508 West 26th St, Rm. 5A. The exhibition will run from January 26 - March 24, 2012. Submissions are open to all for this special exhibition!

Criteria for selection are:
Only original fine art (limited edition and unique) prints are eligible; reproductions of other artwork such as drawings or paintings are not acceptable. Selections will represent a broad diversity of sources, geographical and otherwise. Prints must have been completed within a year of the submission deadline.

SemiDomesticated is an international platform for the promotion of designers, artists and other creatives who work within the realms of sustainable design by focusing on vintage, the upcycling of used or discarded materials, and/or the re-appropriation of everyday commodity items.

SemiDomesticated believes in ethical, conscious consumerism and the creative (re-)use of materials. We believe creating sustainable products includes making conscious decisions to choose recycled materials as well as maintaining high quality, in order to ensure products have long lasting value to consumers.

We are searching for 5-8 new designers working within the realms of redesign, upcycling, vintage and sustainable design to exhibit work in our showroom from December 11th-17th. Please only apply if your work is related to the aforementioned and will be completed and ready for drop-off by December 8th.

LOKALER AUFRUF ZUR TEILNAHME NUR FÜR PERSONEN MIT SCHWEIZER POSTADRESSE

Dieses Jahr kann es leider keinen neuen, für alle offenen Aufruf zur Teilnahme geben, und demnach auch keine neue Ausstellung der ANONYMEN ZEICHNER in Berlin.

ABER: Im Dezember wird blütenweiss eine Auswahl aus dem ARCHIV ANONYMER ZEICHNUNGEN in Zürich ausstellen - auf Einladung des Züricher Künstlerverbandes VISARTE und dem Kunstraum SIHLQUAI55 OFFSPACE.

Die Ausstellung wird vom 9. – 18. 12. 2011 im SIHLQUAI55 OFFSPACE Visarte Zürich zu sehen sein. Außerdem gibt es im Rahmen dieser Ausstellung einen lokalen Aufruf zur Einsendung von Arbeiten welcher sich ausschließlich an Teilnehmer mit Schweizer Postadresse richtet. Aus den Einsendungen wird eine Auswahl getroffen und diese dann zusammen mit den Zeichnungen aus dem blütenweiss-Archiv präsentiert.

Konzept:
Im Rahmen von ANONYME ZEICHNER werden internationale Zeichnungen ausgestellt, deren Autoren anonym bleiben. Jeder Ausstellung geht ein offener Aufruf zur Teilnahme im Internet voraus. Es gibt darin keine inhaltlichen Vorgaben - Alter, Biographie und Herkunft des Urhebers spielen bei der Auswahl für die Ausstellung ebenfalls keine Rolle.

Die Anonymität der Künstler kann nur durch den Kauf der entsprechenden
Zeichnung aufgelöst werden: Alle ausgestellten Arbeiten können während der Ausstellung zu einem symbolischen Einheitspreis von 250 CHF erworben werden.

Die Arbeiten werden dem Käufer direkt vor Ort ausgehändigt und der Name des Künstlers wird im Gegenzug an der entstehenden Leerstelle an der Wand angebracht.

INDEPENDENT CURATORS CALLING | 2012

Established in 2006, Plataforma Revólver is a contemporary art organization based in Lisbon, housing several artists' studios and offering a wide program of exhibitions and international artists’ residencies. This year, we launch the ICC (Independent Curator Calling) program, aiming to engage curators or curatorship collectives, inviting them to create an exhibition project to be presented in September 2012.

Through the ICC, Plataforma Revólver has the pleasure to present a program intended to support national and international curator practices, so as to make possible the development and concretization of their exhibition projects.

Plataforma Revólver will be responsible for the organization and setting up the exhibition, as well as the publication of a catalogue.

This calling is primarily destined to professionals in the culture domain, albeit it is open to all wishing to participate.

How to Apply

The application must contain:
• The curator or collective’s biography
• The project’s synopsis (with 700 characters)
• The invited artists’ CVs (five artists minimum)

richtet sich die Ausschreibung an Künstler, die durch innovative und

CDA-Projects Grant for Artistic Research and Production

Eligibility
Authors (includes artists, curators, writers, thinkers etc…) of any nationality, regardless of age, can propose projects to be carried out individually or collectively.
Applicants can submit an artistic research project that is currently in the production stage or one that is scheduled to be completed during the six‐month period following the date of selection.

Cubist Debris Open Call for Submission to Postcard Series

A monthly postcard each created in collaboration with one of 12 Berlin artists. Each postcard is a new work by the artist, designed specifically for print at Cubist Debris.

Guidelines for Submission:
•5 images that are representative of your current work; 72 dpi, zipped.
•CV and statement.
•Do not send original artwork.

Criteria for selection are:
Only original fine art is eligible; reproductions of other artwork such as drawings or paintings are not acceptable. Work must have been completed within 2 years of the submission deadline.

THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE. Independent artists, workshops, publishers and dealers are all welcome to submit recently completed work.

Compensation:
All participating artists do so at no cost to themselves.

On Site 2012 - CoExist Arts Residency, UK

ON SITE is a brand new residency opportunity for January 2012. The residency is open to artists working in all media and at any stage in their career.
Turner Prize winner Grenville Davey will be selecting one artist to spend a month in the Winch Room gallery space making new work. This will be followed by a solo exhibition in the Winch Room during February 2012, the final format to be discussed and developed with the successful artist.
The Winch Room is the primary exhibition space at TAP and the building’s industrial history is evident in the old Victorian winching system looming overhead at an epic 8.5m high. (W: 4.25M x L: 9.05M) The height and size of the room provides a perfect opportunity for an early-mid career artist to make ambitious large-scale work.

There will also be a parallel group exhibition showing the work of five shortlisted runner-up artists.

6° International Art Prize Arte Laguna

The Italian Cultural Association MoCA (Modern Contemporary Art), in collaboration with Arte Laguna, organizes the Sixth International Art Prize “Arte Laguna” aimed at promoting and enhancingthe contemporary art. The total value of the awards is 170.000 euros. The Prize obtained a medal by the Italian Head of State, with the patronage of, among others, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Veneto Region, the European Institute of Design. The Prize offers: money prizes; the organization of an important collective exhibition in Venice; exhibitions in Art Galleries; Art Residences and the publication of the official Catalogue. The Prize is divided into five sections: painting, photographic art, sculpture, video and performance, virtual art. Participants can choose the theme of their artworks.

The *Network Music Festival* will take place in January 2012 in Birmingham

Presenting a diverse programme of laptop performances, live coding, communicating home-made musical gadgets, sound installations, workshops and everything else in between, the Network Musical Festival boasts an international line-up including some of Birmingham’s best home-grown hi-tech musical performers.

Proposed performances should be 10-30 minutes in length.

The award is given to individuals, projects, and initiatives which, directly or indirectly, have an impact on the contemporary art scene – they contribute to the presentation, discussion and mediation of art with their progressive approach of form or substance. The award equally recognises progressive initiatives without institutional background or support, as well as initiatives emerging within an institutional framework.

The goal of the Catalyst Award is to enhance the appreciation, and its collective character, of inspiring artistic initiatives.

In 2011, the founder invites nominations for the Catalyst Award in two categories:
1. motor (initiatives which have been active for a long time, but function, or functioned, as a catalyst);
2. novelty (initiatives of the recent past which are considered to be catalysts).
