SHORTCUTS - Una Tittel: online exhibition project
•Application Deadline

01.03.2011

Una Tittel, a network of multi-disciplinary artists based in Berlin, London and Glasgow, is now accepting artworks for consideration in an upcoming online exhibition project. Every month there will be a different guest curator.

The exhibition concept: SHORTCUTS

The best ice skaters conceal grueling physical exertion behind a mask of effortlessness. But is there a fast track to appearing as though one has labored intensely? Can a successful formula be appropriated in order to skip the hard work that goes into making art? Can we cheat at art?

If you have works that you think could fit this concept, please submit no more than 4 images / websites / films / to unatittelshortcuts@gmail.com. The project SHORTCUTS will be displayed entirely online, so all media are welcome, as well as internet-based work.

For more information about Una Tittel, please visit http://unatittel.ryanhays.co.uk/

Mostyn Open, 2011
•Application Deadline

07.03.2011

Carrying a prize of GB £10,000 and open to artists working in all media, of any age and with no geographical limits, Mostyn 2011, the Mostyn Open exhibition, returns in 2011 following the reopening of the Mostyn gallery with major new exhibition spaces. Started in 1989, the Mostyn Open grew quickly to become a major exhibition in the UK art calendar, before developing into an international event from around 2000. With Mostyn’s award-winning new building now open, the Open is back on a biennial basis, in a much greater exhibition area and with a bigger prize than previously, and with a worldwide submission welcomed.

http://www.mostyn.org/whats_on/event_detail/mostyn_open_20

This year’s selectors are the renowned artist Richard Wentworth, international curator Karen Mackinnon and Mostyn’s Head of Exhibition Anders Pleass. The selectors choose the works for the exhibition from the images submitted only, without seeing the artists’ names or CVs, so selection is based entirely on their judgement of the works. Over 500 artists have been shown in the sixteen Mostyn Open exhibitions to date. With all artists looked at on an equal basis, without reference to name or track record, it is an opportunity for emerging artists to be considered alongside established ones, and many artists have exhibited in the Mostyn Open early one in their careers, for example Ryan Gander, Rosalind Nashashibi, David Blandy, Elizabeth Price and Camilla Løw.

The closing date for submissions is 7 March 2011 and the exhibition will take place from 21 May to 9 July 2011. Please either download the application form or, if you prefer, email open@mostyn.org

EMERGEANDSEE: Call for Submissions
•Application Deadline

15.03.2011

http://emergeandsee.org/festival-2011/call-for-entries-2011/

The EMERGEANDSEE Media Arts Festival 2011 opens the big stage for the small details: In Films, lectures and an exhibition, people can express themselves by contributing their detail to the EMERGEANDSEE-microcosm. The festival is looking for contributors in all three sections.

The exhibition and artistic pieces will put our world together anew. This includes acoustic as well as visual compositions that toy around with details. No boundaries should restrict the artistic medium: performances, sound productions for the “audio-cinema”, visual artistic works, video installations, cross-medial works, etc. all contribute to a limitless outcome.

Within the short film competition, innovative feature films, animations, documentaries and experimental worlds of images from around the globe will explore the topic of the detail in the eye of the jury and the audience.

Within the lectures, thinkers and makers from diverse areas (social & cultural sciences, media and art, etc.) will gather. Here, we are looking for new theories and ideas presented via short lectures. This concerns people from a position in the academic world and others that have no professional stance regarding media – all are welcome.

Section film: short films up to 20 minutes long

INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Low Lives
•Application Deadline

http://www.lowlives.net/

About Low Lives:

Now entering its third year, Low Lives is an international exhibition of live performance-based works transmitted via the internet and projected in real time at multiple venues throughout the U.S. and around the world. Low Lives examines works that critically investigate, challenge, and extend the potential of performance practice presented live through online broadcasting networks. These networks provide a new alternative and efficient medium for presenting, viewing, and archiving performances. Low Lives is not simply about the presentation of performative gestures at a particular place and time but also about the transmission of these moments and what gets lost, conveyed, blurred, and reconfigured when utilizing this medium. Low Lives embraces works with a lo-fi aesthetic such as low pixel image and sound quality, contributing to a raw, DIY and sometimes voyeuristic quality in the transmission and reception of the work.

Artists working in any media are invited to submit proposals for live performance-based works.

Call for an artistic concept for NEUMANN SCULPTURE!
•Application Deadline

28.03.2011

What kind of concept do we want from you?

You should hand-in a creative concept for an object which should possibly be a walk-in or climb on sculpture. The object will be installed on the public Square Franz-Neumann-Platz for around two month. Your concept should somehow refer to this transiency e.g through the choice of material (re-usage of thrown away items, recycling material only, usage of weather influences on material). An other aspect your concept should deal with is the city planning view on the Square Franz-Neumann-Platz as the entrance to the Lette neighbourhood. Your work should reflect or underline this entrance and passage function.

The material can be chosen by the artist. Depending on the individual concept, additional non-financial sponsoring e.g material form a scaffolding firm might be arrangeable.

Financial framework

For the realisation of the elected concepts an allowance of 1000€ will be paid.
For material and setting up the installation 1300 € are provided.

NEUMANN FESTIVAL is looking for a creative concept of a temporary sculpture which will be displayed at the art festival NEUMANN! In July 2011.

Noorderlicht Photofestival 2011, The Netherlands

31.03.2011

Noorderlicht calls on photographers, curators and photo agencies to submit work or proposals for METROPOLIS, City Life in the Urban Age.
Deadline for submitting is 31 March, 2011. Please read our conditions and technical details first.- http://www.noorderlicht.com/en/photofestival/submitting-for-the-2011-photofestival/

pandora@noorderlicht.com

We are looking for photo series that present a distinctive, even idiosyncratic vision on the character of the modern city. Economic, social or urban planning aspects can each play a role; the series may be literal or metaphorical. We are striving for a global picture; the group exhibition as a whole will be a journey through cities in all parts of the world.
The precise sub-themes will be set out in a following stage of the project. We list several possibilities as examples:

Symphony: The city as the effervescent economic and social nerve centre of modern society, a place for progress, interaction and infinite possibilities;
Mutability: Space that is the product of urban planning, with architectonic dreams of the good life for all the city's inhabitants; from old ideals of equality to modern technology and sustainability;
Expansion: The urge for unbridled expansion in the name of progress, creating new chances but also pushing the old into oblivion; a place of migration, on the way to a better future, even if that means a life in the chaos of the slums;
Seduction: Where massive economic differences exist and everyone is seduced by a mass media landscape to seek greater wealth, where millionaires live next to the homeless;
Fear: Places where the individual can be swamped in a mass of strangers; where the demands of the rat race for success stand in the way of authentic living.
