PhDArts: Call for Applications
•Application Deadline
01.04.2011
PhD programme in visual art and design
Research in and through artistic practice
PhDArts offers an international, high-level doctoral programme in visual arts and design. Its goal is to stimulate and facilitate artist-researchers and to provide a suitable research environment. PhDArts is a collaboration between the Leiden University Academy of Creative and Performing Arts and the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague.
In research in and through artistic practice, the concepts of knowledge, meaning and sense are closely interwoven. The discursive, verbal component of research is important in gaining insight into and examining this knowledge. Research in art is characterized by interaction with artistic practice: it is an inseparable part of the work of the artist. The end result of the research is therefore an artistic product, combined with a discursive product, the dissertation, which does justice to the artistic one.
Admission
Prospective PhD candidates can submit an application to the Leiden University Academy of Creative and Performing Arts.
Applicants must have a Master's of Arts Degree or proof of study at a comparable level. The final decision on admission rests with the Leiden University, which will also award the PhD.
The research dossier
Applicants must put together a research dossier for their entrance exam. A form for this is provided on the website: http://www.phdarts.eu
For more information see http://www.phdarts.eu or mail to: info@phdarts.eu

Call for Proposals: Moving Walls 19 Documentary Photography Exhibition
•Application Deadline
01.04.2011
The Open Society Foundations invite photographers to submit a body of work for consideration in the Moving Walls 19 group exhibition.

undertake globally in their documentation of complex social and political
issues. Their images provide the world with human rights evidence, put
faces onto a conflict, document the struggles and defiance of marginalized
people, reframe how issues are discussed publicly, and provide
opportunities for reflection and discussion. Through Moving Walls, the
Foundations honor this work while visually highlighting the mission of our
foundation to staff and visitors.
Since its inception in 1998, Moving Walls has featured over 100
photographers whose work address a variety of social justice and human
rights issues that coincide with the Foundations' mission.
Eligibility
Any emerging or veteran photographer who has completed a body of work on a human rights or social justice issue may apply for Moving Walls. Work in progress may be submitted as long as a substantial portion of the work has been completed. We will accept any genre of photography that is

Jorge Luis Borges talked about a red fish swims backwards so the water will not get into its eyes in El libro de los seres imaginarios (The
Book of Imaginary Beings), this red fish pops up whenever we are confronted with differences in thinking.
Between Windows attempts to initiate dialogues about and around Latin America through time-based media to see if we can swim backwards
together. Many people asked us what is the theme for program, like every good conversation, we do not know where it will take us before
it starts.
For this program, we have chosen to be humble and want to listen to friends and experts from Latin America first before we open our mouth. Yet we are prepared to meet the demands of political-cultural debate and to navigate the diverse visual output that confronts the territory in the crisis time today.
Initiated by SideBySide Studio, co-produced with Mindpirates, this 3 day program will first start on 27-29.05.2011 with the possibility to
continue in other countries in Asia.
Videos, book-objects, lectures, and other artistic experiments will be accepted by visual artists born or based in Latin America.
Only entries submitted before 04.04.2011will be accepted, entry regulations is published here,

Projects that put these two worlds into dialogue with each other, so as to comment upon each other and allow the qualities of each experience to be illuminated, are of specific interest to the Foundation.
•Application Deadline
15.04.2011
Proposals to the foundation may take the form of installations, public interventions, residencies and exhibitions where a single artist or collaborative team is commissioned to create new work. The Spirit Level: images of [in]equality
•Application Deadline
15.04.2011
We are looking for photographic representations of income inequality and equality, photos that can grab attention, communicate and inspire.
Unfortunately, there are images of income inequality all around us. So while we anticipate many striking entries that capture the destructive nature of income disparities in our society, we are also looking for positive representations of what a more equal society might look like – photos that can motivate through their positivity, galvanising people to action.
Above all else, we are looking for photos that conceptualise [in]equality in a new way, to provoke thought and debate in fresh and interesting ways.
Closing date - midday on 15 April 2011

On behalf of NGO IME, we have the pleasure of inviting you to submit a proposal for an art work, installation, performance, or presentation to the Water Tower Art Fest in Sofia, Bulgaria!
This year there is no theme for the festival mere communication is on the basis of all this!
The festival has been developed over the years in alternative art spaces across the city of Sofia. The initial venue was an unused water tower, which has now become a symbol for our city’s alternative possibilities. During the festival we populate abandoned or underused buildings with art and artists and open them to the public. Progressively gaining recognition in the Bulgaria art scene, we have over time added new venues to the festival. New sites include: baths, archaeological remains, and other buildings with architectural or historical value for our culture.
Presentation
An open parallel presentational program is being initiated this year on a topic of your choice!

Water Tower Art Fest 24-30 June 2011, Bulgaria
•Application Deadline
15.04.2011
Please make your proposal specific to the venue/s in which you are interested in working.

We have entered the experimental age…Experiments are no longer conducted just in the laboratory. They have become collective experiments that concern each and every one of us." Bruno Latour, 2004
What is experimentation? What makes art 'experimental'? What are the results of aesthetic experiments and why do we need them? Could artists invent new modes of experimentation with/for science? What are the differences between experiments and inventions; experiments and failures; experiment and innovation? How do we set up ethico-scientific-aesthetic experiments?
This conference will showcase and discuss innovative arts projects by leading practitioners, thinkers and research groups that model new forms of transdisciplinarity and offer new ways of addressing real-world issues. These include works that have successfully 'changed the world' as well as speculative initiatives that radically change the way we think.
