The rooms for the guest artists are made up of a studio (40 m2) and an apartment (32 m2) with kitchen, washing machine and telephone. The house pays a grant of 550 Euro a month. We do not pay for travelling expenses.

One of the conditions of the residency is that every guest artist makes an exhibition in the Artists Unlimited gallery.

LAGE 3:20 - Exhibition Project

LAGE 3:20 is an exhibition project initiated for the space LAGE EGAL by the artists Jofroi Amaral, Pierre Granoux and Jean François Karst, motivated by the desire to experience the conditions of exhibition of art and its dissemination. The project LAGE 3:20 presents the model of the studio space, scale 3:20 that corresponds to a ratio of 15 cm (5.90 inches) in the model to 100 cm (39.37 inches) in reality.

Embedded in a large table, this office-model is made available to curators for the development of exhibition projects : they will work directly (up)on the model. A monumental shelf where all models from the collection LAGE 3:20 will be also exhibited and completing the installation, as well as an online archiving project.

In general, the documentation of an experience does not necessarily have to take the form of an image; text or sound, for instance, can be just as photographic. Visual form is another stereotype of photography, the authoritarian rule of which should long be overthrown. The epithet “photographic” should be understood as pointing to a certain quality, not technique, while photography itself shold be understood as a specific mode of communication…

The End is just the beginning… An Open Call for Video work.

MMX is currently in the process of putting together the last Screening program for our one year Open Art Venue project. Show VII will open the end of October 2010 and run until December 2010.
We are looking for videos that loosely deal with the idea of the end. This can be interpreted many different ways. For us at MMX, the end of our art space is sad but also exciting because we have a lot of other interesting projects on the horizon. So the end also deals with new beginnings and the fact that all good things most come to an end.
MMX opens a new exhibition every six weeks always with a new screening program. Our screening room holds up to 100 people, is powered with a HD ready projector, Mac mini, and Mackie speaker sound system. The program plays throughout the duration of the exhibition on a loop as opposed to a one-time screening. What we have in mind is a selection of extraordinary video/films to screen- short and sweet.


At this time we are only interested in seeing short video work with some element of endings and beginnings. Videos should be in the time range of 30 seconds to 10 minutes in length.

The legendary 1950ies building complex is conveniently situated directly on the greenbelt eastern bank of the Spree. The complex was built in 1951 as the radio station of the GDR and was in operation until German reunification. Since the beginning of 2007 the site has been undergoing an exciting revitalization linking the historic landmark theme and character of the building and turning it into a self-cont...ained center for the arts.

Our next project is to connect the Funkhaus with the contemporary art scene of Berlin. At first, a 600-square-meter area on the ground floor of the main building will be turned into a working space for artists. The artists chosen for the project will enjoy a special rate for the rental of the ateliers, which includes all utility bills as well as electricity, internet access and a transportation service if needed. On top of that, Funkhaus Berlin will promote the artists who take part in the program and will organize two group exhibitions a year.

ECAS - Festival As Lab - Open Call

The ECAS festivals are experimental spaces or laboratories where we can experiment and play with future art, music and ideas. This call for proposals seeks projects that take the form of an experiment, a prototype or a trial of a new type of art object, technology or form of participation.

The commissioned project will receive a Euro 5,000 fee, up to Euro 5,000 production costs, plus additional limited staging costs and support.

Proposals that do not win the commission may still be considered for inclusion in the ECAS festivals and will automatically be considered for other sources of support. All will receive full marketing benefits, management and network support.

During the workshop we will use Pure Data, a free (as a bird and as a beer) graphical programming language particularly focused on the processing of audio and video data in real time. Pure data is a tool for artists whom wants experiment with a different creation pattern, with a freedom to build from the scratch they own instruments or interactive installation. You don't need to be a programmer to begin to build your tool. In 5-6 days long workshop you will learn the basis of language, how to manipulate or create a video and how to play with audio. At the end of the workshop all participants will play in a jam session together in the Lab space or exhibit their prototypes.

As part of our ongoing exhibition programme we are developing Encounter - a project that aims to highlight the creative conversation taking place between Art and Science and the potential of collaboration.

The proposal should not only illustrate the actual collaborative work but also make visible the processes, working methods, advantages and problems that come through fusing two traditionally separate studies. The Sketchbook Project

Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country.

After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

Visual Artists Support Stipend

Each year, Can Serrat offers a limited number of Support Stipends to visual artists and writers. The stipends cover 40% of the total cost (food, lodging and workspace) of stays lasting from 30 -90 days (the stipend cannot be combined with discounts mentioned in the pricelist).

During their stay at Can Serrat, each artist is asked to give an informal lecture concerning their work, open to the public in general. Each artist is asked to leave one piece of work made during the residency period as a donation to Can Serrat's permanent collection.

Architecture Open Laboratory / now/next: performance space at the crossroads

The Architecture Section of the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, asking “what is a theatre now and what could it be next?” will include also an Open Laboratory where selected participants will collaborate and work with renowned international experts in theatre architecture, theory, and design to propose alternative models for citing performance.

12 international postgraduate students, and emerging practitioners with at least 5 years practice experience in architecture, performance and design, will be chosen from submissions of a CV, a portfolio, and a 600-word statement of intent, to come to Prague for 11 days and participate int he open laboratory.

Workshop fee is covered by the PQ.

Upendo Hero is now coming to Berlin to see these public spaces with his own eyes, to build the movement and to work with you from November 15th until November 30th. He will bring 6 members of the music Ukoo Flani clan. They need you to show those public spaces.

Fellowships are awarded to artists who finished their basic studies not more than five years before applying to Akademie Schloss Solitude or who are not older than 35. University or college students will not be considered for selection.

The following artistic disciplines are represented: architecture, visual arts, performing arts, design, literature, music/sound, and video/film/new media. As of 2007, the art, science & business program will be integrated in the jury process, including disciplines in the humanities, the sciences and economics.

Fellowship includes:

The successful applicant will receive a £500 fee to develop a programme proposal and funding application, with Crate's support.
