apexart: Unsolicited Proposal Program
" Continuing our annual Unsolicited Proposal Program, we will accept 600-word, idea-based proposals for evaluation by an international panel of apexart associates (curators, artists, writers, philosophers). Submissions are reviewed independently, anonymously and without visual support material—they are evaluated solely on the strength of the idea. No mountain too high, no river too deep!
Previous curatorial experience is in no way required, and will not factor into the selection process.
The two proposals with the highest ratings will be presented at apexart in the 2010-11 season (September 2010 to July 2011). For those in or outside the field, this program is a unique opportunity to have a professionally mounted exhibition in New York City!"

IMAGINE - Towards an eco-aesthetic, 2011
Visual artists and curators working within all media types are hereby invited to submit proposals for the year 2011. We seek suggestions for group and solo exhibitions, workshops and projects intended for the public space.
The Aarhus Art Building is an exhibition venue for contemporary art focusing on experimental qualities and approaches. In general The Aarhus Art Building acts as a seismograph for the current trends on the art scene. By simultaneously creating a debate around these trends the venue seeks to play an active part in the generation of new ideas. As a non-commercial exhibition venue the Aarhus Art Building meets its audience with the same amount of openness and challenge.

OPEN CALL FOR 2nd Roma Pavilion - Call the Witness
The curatorial team of The 2nd Roma Pavilion – Call the Witness announces its open call for artists, researchers and media archive.
Deadlines:
15 March 2010, for artists/researchers
1 May 2010, for Media Archives
This project, which will be presented in Venice in 2011, is conceptualised and curated by the interdisciplinary collaborative curatorial team: Suzana Milevska, Vladan Jeremic, Rena Raedle and Enisa Eminovska.
We issue a “Call for Witnesses” to bring to light testimonies and statements from artists and researchers that will raise awareness of the different situations of Roma communities throughout the world, ranging from displacement and discrimination to successful emancipatory processes. The question: who has control over the means of representation and has the power to promote the dominant cultural and moral values concerning Roma communities provoked us to put emphasis on new media art as an available means for self-presentation and self-reflection.
We invite artists and researchers to submit proposals that address these issues in a way that will allow further collaborative development, both of content and media-wise. The selected contributors will be invited to present and discuss their proposals at a working meeting to take place in Belgrade (April 2010) where we will discuss the possibilities of eventual further productions of individual works or collaborative projects. The conditions for production will be agreed for the most promising concepts to be realised in 2010 and presented at the 2nd Roma Pavilion in Venice (2011).

Dance Omi International Dance Collective
•Application Deadline
01.03.2010
Inaugurated in 2005, the Dance Omi International Dance Collective is the newest residency program at the Omi International Arts Center. This unique program brings together 10 international dance artists who spend nearly 3 weeks exploring collaboration. Though the program culminates in informal showings on the Omi campus and in New York City, the greatness of this program lies in the absence of pressure to create a performance product. Rather the program's gently facilitated process emphasizes exploration, experimentation and above all else, collaborative process.
Applicants may be primarily choreographers, dancers or improvisers, but should have some proficiency in each of these areas. Dance Omi encourages professional dance artists from all dance disciplines to apply. It is recommended that applicants come not with specific projects in mind, but a willingness to share their skills and sensibilities, and an openness to working with others on jointly conceived dance projects.

Filmanalytical Workshop: 2nd and 3rd of March,
•Application Deadline
01.03.2010
"If there is a political dream of the border today, it is like anti-virussoftware: constantly scanning traffic, identifying threats, quarantining, disinfecting and silently isolating risks so that all those flows which we are told to value can continue to circulate and proliferate. A technology which, because the „threat" is constantly morphing, must achieve a condition of permanent updating.
(Wiliam Walters in conversation with Marion von Osten, Genealogies of control, project migration)
On the basis of films / film fragments different strategies of in/visibility regarding border and migration will be analysed and discussed. Which images of establishing and transgression of borders are being produced? Who speaks for whom and from which point of view? How can the contradiction between ilegality and visiblity be made productive? How are films produced within the tension of art, film and activism? And with which impact are they used?"
Filmanalytical Workshop: 2nd and 3rd of March,

[self] ~imaging // artists portraying themselves in film and video
•Application Deadline
02.03.2010
Like in the classical artistic media, self-portraying takes also in film & videoart a prominent position, the own "self" is not only representing the cheapest model, but basically self-reflecting belongs to the essential artistic processes and activities of an artist. Thus, there are good reasons why artists self-portraits can be counted often to the best and most intimate works of an artist, at all.
VideoChannel Cologne
would like to invite artists working in the field of the moving images to submit their Selfportrait in video. VideoChannel Cologne is planning to extend an already existing collection of artists video self-portraits through new exciting films and videos to be launched in May 2010 on VideoChannel online, optional screenings in sequence.

Since it’s inception, the idea behind ZOOart has been to offer a space to unknown young artists and also bring attention to those who have also achieved some notoriety.

Call for proposals - Wirksworth Festival 2010
•Application Deadline
22.03.2010
Festival curator David Gilbert is calling for proposals for our commissioned programme for 2010 and beyond.
Thematically Wirksworth Festival will continue to explore the relationship between Art & Architecture, and over the next three years we want to explore the nature, meanings and uses (past, present, actual and potential) of buildings | indoor and outdoor space | public and private space in a number of ways:
1. Pavilion Programme. A call to architects and designers interested in proposing a temporary structure (a Pavilion) for Wirksworth.
2. [Im]Possible Wirksworth: An inventory of unrealised ideas. The Pavilion will contain concept designs, fly-through graphics, maquettes etc, from architects, designers, artists, proposing exciting and radical new buildings, remodelling of existing buildings, uses of unusual and problematic sites, etc...
Some of these projects may be realised as part of the commissioned programme.
3. Site-specific/Site-responsive commissions. This will be complemented by extending the site-specific and site-responsive art commissioning programme, so we are now seeking proposals for interventions in spaces in the town, whether sculptural, architectural, projected (including film, interactive work and 3D motion graphics) or performative.
4. Film and Moving Image. A new strand to the Festival is film/artists' film and video, with an architecture themed short film salon for 2010, and the potential for projection works which interact with, intervene in or respond to architecture.

Competition for the Design of a Freedom and Unity Memorial in Berlin 2010
•Application Deadline
26.03.2010
On 9 November 2007, the German parliament, the Bundestag, decided that the Federal Republic of Germany will erect a Memorial to Freedom and Unity in remembrance of the peaceful revolution in the autumn of 1989 and the reinstatement of Germany's national unity.
The Memorial to Freedom and Unity is to be erected as a national symbol in the centre of the German capital. Its meaning and effect are to be reflected in its form and design.
The chosen location for the future Monument to Freedom and Unity is the plinth of the former national monument to Kaiser Wilhelm I. on the so-called "Schlossfreiheit" in Berlin-Mitte.
The German Bundestag occupied itself with this topic in several resolutions. In the meeting of the Committee for Culture and Media held in July 2009, the objective of the monument was once again defined in precise terms.
A procedure will be initiated consisting of a restricted interdisciplinary competition with preceding open application procedure. This means, the sponsor publicly invites interested professionals (artists, architects, landscape architects) to apply. Suitability criteria will be defined by the sponsor to acquire particularly qualified applicants. A selection committee of experts will choose approximately 30 participants from the applications received. The competition will be implemented with the chosen participants. These participants will submit their designs, which will then be assessed by a jury.

"reich sein" 12. Schwerpunktausstellung:
•Application Deadline
27.03.2010

•Application Deadline
28.03.2010
How can we speak of non-being if to speak at all implies saying “some thing”? This difficulty raises the broader question of the nature of negation as a rhetorical, logical and political act. Negation is not independent from affirmation, since negation always involves a thing which is negated. But the priority of affirmation can itself be called into question by asking whether every affirmation might only be achieved by negating other properties. The conference will investigate the complex interrelations between affirmations and negations within the frame of the core project Tension/Spannung.

National Bodies in Eastern Europe
•Application Deadline
30.03.2010
We wish to explore the spread of nationalized thinking as it relates to the body. How did people in central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Balkans classify each other in terms of national concepts? What characteristics supposedly distinguished the Czech from the German, the Jew from the Ukrainian, the Romanian from the Hungarian, the Turk from the Greek, and so forth? How did these fantasies of the national body emerge, and how did they affect human interactions? Other topics of possible interest include: national bodily practices, literary concepts of national bodies, national sexuality or sexualities, national clothing or accoutrements, sporting nationalism, or eugenics.
We are initially soliciting papers for a conference hosted by the Antipodean East European Study Group at Victoria University and the Russian Programme at the University of Canterbury. The conference will take place on the weekend of 28-29 August in Wellington, New Zealand.
We welcome scholars working in history, anthropology, sociology, literary studies, film studies, and other related disciplines. The conference organizers then intend to publish selected papers either as an edited volume, or a special edition of a relevant journal. Final word lengths are flexible at this stage, but we suggest contributors aim for 6,000 words.

Public Art and New Artistic Strategies Master’s Degree
•Application Deadline
31.03.2010
"The Faculty of Art and Design (Gestaltung) at the Bauhaus-University Weimar began its international Master of Fine Arts (mfa) course of study – "Public Art and New Artistic Strategies" – in winter semester 2001/2002. This course of studies was conceived by the department of fine arts. It is the first and, to date, the only program of its kind in Germany.
In their studies, students focus on art projects that go beyond the protective space of the museum and gallery. The points of departure are the different strategies and interventions of artists working in public space today. Urban configurations, parks and gardens, landscapes and new media are all included within the definition of public space. The definition also includes works which are communicated through radio, television or the internet.
The goal of the course of study is to prepare the students to deal with the particular situation of art in association with and in the public realm..."
