VLA Art & Law Residency Program, NYC

Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts solicits applications from professional visual artists and arts writers for its new Art & Law Residency Program, the first program of its kind.

Program Goal
As legal and judicial issues now permeate every aspect of social, political and cultural life, artistic production is no longer immune. The Art & Law Residency provides an intellectual and artistic setting for participants to engage in ongoing discussions and debates that examine the overlap and disconnect between artistic production and the law from historical, social, ethical and intellectual standpoints. Using law as both a discourse and medium, new visual artwork and critical writing will come into being through the Program. All the participants will also gain experience and knowledge they can carry into the future beyond the Program.

Music Omi International Musicians Residency
•Application Deadline

01.02.2010

Each August, approximately a dozen musicians--composers and performers from around the globe--gather for two and a half weeks to share in a unique collaborative music making residency program. Music Omi invites applicants from all musical disciplines who wish to broaden their artistic horizons and engage actively with a diversity of other musicians. Unlike most artists residency programs, where artists come to work in isolation, Music Omi actively encourages the exchange of ideas and the sharing of cultures through active collaboration. A singular feature of the Music Omi experience is the presentation of two public concerts at the conclusion of the program (one on the Art Omi campus itself near the conclusion of the residency, and the other at a New York City venue the day following the conclusion of the residency).

The Scavenger Project
•Application Deadline

14.02.2010

An international scavenger hunt to see how artists from around the globe visually interpret the same items, which are then documented in a book and exhibitions.

This is as much a social experiment as it is an art exhibition. You will receive a universal list that you (and every participant involved) will use to visually interpret each item. Any medium may be used as long as it can be shipped to us (or photos taken and included on a CD). Experimentation and thinking outside of the box is the name of the game.

The final outcome is to document the project in two ways, including multiple exhibitions (at galleries in Brooklyn, NY and Seattle, WA) and in a book.

At least one of your items will be included in the book.

For the past 15 years, Voies Off has offered an alternative approach to emerging contemporary photography, its particularities, its evolutions, and its areas of resistance.

Call for entries - "The Art of Tarots"
•Application Deadline

15.12.2010

Concept
No one knows where or when was born the Tarot, nor who invented it.
We don't even know the meaning of this word, nor to which language it belongs to.
Some consider them an Alchemycal Work, Astrological, Cabalistic.. but in the first place Tarots are
an Art Work.
Everyone, from Initiates of different branches of Magic to Artists coming from every Nation,
everyone attempted to paint the real Tarot: but maybe the real Tarot doesn't even exist, and it is only
a constant research of a superior/interior knowledge. Behind the many significances of this ancient
Art, an intimate vision and a personal interpretation are hidden.
The Real Tarot is the one that each creates.

Media
Painting, Photography, Digital Art.
