Atlantic Center for the Arts - Residency #136 - ROSELLEN BROWN, literature
•Application Deadline

23.10.2009

Residency Statement
I am committed to the idea that first thought is not always best thought, and – as someone who routinely crosses boundaries between genres to find whatever form my material needs – I like to prod my writers to try multiple approaches to everything they write. I’d like to work (in a group and in conferences) with people eager to begin new writing or to go forward with a project still malleable, open to change that might overturn it and force a wholesale re-thinking. We will do exercises for increased flexibility and will read our betters (if not necessarily our elders).

Application Requirements
This residency is open to any genre. Applicants should submit 5 poems or 20 pp. prose (fiction or essay). I’d like to see a brief statement that would include writing experience and a sense of what the applicant would like to get from the residency: new work, a fresh look at an ongoing project, etc.

Atlantic Center for the Arts - Residency #136 - DAVID FELDER, music composition
•Application Deadline

23.10.2009

Residency Statement
I look forward to working with Associates on their current projects of importance, to discussions, workshops, and individual sessions ranging across a wide terrain of compositional opportunities, and topics, including collaboration, and to performances of work composed by Associates for distinguished colleagues from the Center for 21st Century Music at the University of Buffalo, during the final week.

Application Requirements
Applicants should send scores and accompanying recordings of two recent works, current cv, and bio, a detailed statement of plans/projects/aims for the residency, and one letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope.

Atlantic Center for the Arts - Residency #136 - JEAN-MARC BUSTAMANTE, visual arts
•Application Deadline

23.10.2009

Residency statement
I would like to work with artists in any media, who are very open and curious to explore new fields. As a French/European artist I can bring different points of view and a fresh approach about what is Art today. I also believe that the 3 weeks of this residency is an opportunity to go deeper and create good relationships through individual and groups conversations.

Application requirement
Applicants should submit a biography and documentations about their works (CD, DVD, PowerPoint, etc). A residence like this one is a crossroads, an opportunity to confront human experiences directed by the passion of Art. Concerning the practice, it seems important to me to realize a project during the residence. The point is not to create a "master piece" but to analyze the process - as in a "making of a movie" – exploring the process and questions around the piece, from its conception until the final presentation.

FLAG METAMORPHOSES - Call for participation / submission
•Application Deadline

30.10.2009

Flag Metamorphoses is a participatory art project - a continuously
growing series of animations with many authors: The flags of every
nation in the world will transform into each other through flash
animations. Between each two flags, scenes appear to show an aspect
of the relations between the two countries - an exploration into the
meaning of imagery on flags, aiming to create interrelated
associations through questioning, reassessing, fluidizing and re-
mixing of diverse national iconography. Flag Metamorphoses lays
stress on the relations between nations as changing ones: Only in the
permanent re-creation of values, symbols and ways of life, in mixing
with others and differing from others, identities, cultures and
societies stay alive. Each artist who creates a flag animation
expresses such a relation in his/her own way. You too can contribute!
