Electricity is Magic

EiM was founded in 2009 by Eric Powell and Matt Griffin, primarily as a vehicle to release their own experimental electronic and electroacoustic music. Quickly, however, it grew to be a curatorial project, and, since late 2009, EiM have been putting on art and performance events throughout North America.

In 2012, EiM are proud to expand again, and will be presenting gallery shows at its (semi-)permanent home at the EiM Gallery, located at 715 Richmond St. W. in Toronto, ON.


Our aim with the gallery space is to continue to present works that don’t necessarily fit comfortably within a traditional gallery context. Artists will be given the challenge of presenting work which engages with or reacts to the living space of the apartment. We are particularly interested in work which employs some aspect of technological mediation, but not necessarily as the impetus for the piece. We’re also interested in slow art, which not only requests, but often demands, and always reminds us of the pleasure in sustained viewing of a particular work.

As we plan our 2012 season, we invite submissions from individual artists, collectives, or curators to submit proposals for the EiM Gallery. Our space is non-traditional, and as such, we have some unique parameters for artists to contend with.

In the frame of KIOSK project Oberliht Association calls artists from Moldova to submit project proposals to be presented at FLAT SPACE every month, as an intervention into it.

FLAT SPACE is a functional replica of a socialist apartment, commissioned to represent the identity of the KIOSK project. The point of departure for the design of the FLAT SPACE was to publicly display the private space of a flat limited by the standards of the socialist society. AGM is a curatorial project with some of the inbuilt features of a
parasite. Each time, by changing partner, location, form and content,
its primary focus is to explore the peculiarity of the hosting body –
be it a site, an institution or a theme.

Through the creation of encounters and cultural exchange, AGM promotes
the development of a network of cultural centres working. Our goal is
to create and consolidate international collaboration, foster
knowledge exchange and support international mobility of cultural
workers, theorists and artists. Every AGM Culture edition poses a
series of questions challenging pre-conceived ideas of the hosting
body and the relative cultural productions taking place in/through
that environment.


AGM is currently accepting proposals for future editions of the

Node Center for Curatorial Studies was created in order to offer a platform to teach, experiment, and investigate subjects related to curatorial studies and contemporary art practices.

The Center´s core activity stems from the Curatorial Residency Program that offers its participants the possibility of expanding their professional and practical experience while deeply immersing them in Berlin’s art scene.

Node is a dynamic space were professional interactions take place in the form of seminars, artist presentations, and other activities that explore the complexity of curatorial work. It also draws together curators, artists, and creative practitioners in Berlin.

The residency culminates in the development of a printed publication and the curation of a final show.

Artists' international development fund

The programme is open to artists of any artform:
- who have received recognition for their work in England
- who do not have extensive international experience
- whose work will benefit from launching better international networks - either artistically or in terms of developing an audience for their work
- who can demonstrate an interest in their work from an overseas partner/host

Individual artists, including creative producers, curators and editors, can apply. Although the Artists' international development programme is aimed at individual artists, small groups of artists who normally collaborate in their work can also apply. This could include, for example, musicians and visual artists who usually create work together, or writers and their translators. If the group does not have a shared bank account, awards to successful applicants would be made to the lead artist named on the application form, but all members of the group would be jointly responsible for the award.

The programme offers early stage development opportunities for individual freelance and self employed artists based in England to spend time building links with artists, organisations and/or creative producers in another countr

The Artists' international development programme will have three rounds for applications in each financial year from March 2012 until February 2015.

There will be three deadlines per financial year in May, October and February. Individual artists are invited to submit proposals that start and finish at any point within a financial year (April to March). Proposals submitted in February may finish before 31 March 2014. You may only make one application for each financial year.

The Artists' international development programme is a £750,000 fund, jointly funded by the British Council and Arts Council England.

Eligibility:

CASAMARLES Artist Residency - Spain

CeRCCa opens its program to artists, critics, researchers and curators interested in participating in self-directed residencies in Llorenç del Penedes, a quiet village located one hour outside of Barcelona and 10 minutes drive to the sea. The physical development of specific projects is not required during the residency at CeRCCA. Self-directed residencies aim to facilitate a space for research, experimentation, meeting and discussion point to implement artistic and curatorial projects. This type of residence is aimed at:
- professional artists of any discipline and nationality (individual artists, artistic groups or venues),
- French and international art schools wishing to take up residency at CENTQUATRE to work on a specific project for a set period of time.

Residents are offered:
-a 90m² workshop OR a production office (20m²) OR an assembly office (20m²), for a period of 2-3 weeks in a row,
-technical assistance charged at a flat rate is automatically provided.

Artists, radio producers and presenters are invited to make a proposal for audio programmes to be broadcast on Curious Broadcast Web Radio, a new arts – based community radio station based in Co. Dublin. We are currently looking for individuals with a passion for creating radio programmes that push boundaries of the status quo and generate fresh thinking about the world around us.
Curious Broadcast Web Radio is looking for Artists and Radio Producers who wish to engage in radio as an aesthetic language and a means of collaborative and creative expression for themselves, or in collaboration with other individuals and communities.

Dream Music Puppetry

One of few programs in the country to grow and commission contemporary, adult puppet works, Dream Music provides performance opportunities to puppet artists, and encourages multidisciplinary collaboration to develop new puppetry techniques. This program was inaugurated with the premiere of Basil Twist’s OBIE-award winning Symphonie Fantastique in 1998. Under the artistic direction of Twist, with producing direction from HERE co-founder Barbara Busackino, the Dream Music aesthetic is geared toward puppet works that feature live music as a collaborative element.

ERSTE Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Curators

ERSTE Foundation offers three fellowships for emerging curators from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia to take part in the curatorial course at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg.

Love Cambridge Art Ball

We are looking for artists from across Cambridgeshire, regardless of their medium or career stage, to donate a piece of work that they feel sums up their practice and vision most accurately. These pieces will be put up for “adoption” by the Art Salon, and can be adopted by members of the public who, in return, will receive an e-print of the piece, information about the artist, and a ticket to an exclusive Love Cambridge Art Ball at the Art Salon in June. As well as having their work adopted online, each artist will have the opportunity to exhibit the original at the ball. The scheme will also give visibility to the range of artists working across the city in different spaces.

All of the proceeds raised from the adoptions will go towards Love Cambridge Art, to help promote equal access to art in the city by providing free community art classes and workshops, studio bursaries, better facilities and promotion of art to the public.

MART is host to Ireland’s largest online video art gallery and collection of Irish Visual Artists working in New Media, Installation, Sculpture, Experimental Film, and Performance. MART was set up by Ciara Scanlan & Matthew Nevin in 2006 with an inclusive ethos and have worked with over 300 artists through 27 exhibitions across Ireland, UK, Europe & USA.

This is a weblog and reference point for all things typographic. That sounds rather grand, but in reality, this is a place where I will post images, information and links about type, typography, lettering, calligraphy and pen arts, grafitti, ascemic writing, non-latin letterforms and languages, technical stuff, creative stuff, legal stuff, historical and archaic typography and other stuff not previously mentioned about type and letterforms.

I have set this blog up primarily as a first point of call for my own graphic design students but hope others will will find it useful, will comment and contribute material and good links in order to create a good student resource for the study of typography.

OPEN MUSEUM OPEN CALL 2012 - PARTS OF OPEN MUSEUM

The OPEN MUSEUM has been conceived as a modular concept and creates a multifunctional meeting room for mediation and dialogue.
It is located on a vacant lot at ‘Pulverteich’ between house numbers 8 and 16, Hamburg-St.Georg.

Focus 1 is the presentation of groups of artists and initiatives that work in a site specific way and follow a socially experimental and critical approach. Installations, media specific and performance pieces will be created within this context. In particular, invited participants should deal with topical questions of urban development, cultural identity and lasting trends of urban utopias.

Focus 2 is to create a forum in the distric ot St Georg that through its layout and architectur provides an alternative to the existing cultural insitutions and facilities and that in itself is open, free and accessible at all times.

Artist collaborators BALTIC RAW ORG is for the first time initiating an OPEN CALL : PARTS OF OPEN MUSEUM.
The OPEN CALL is intended for artists, culture workers, curators and producers who act (or would like to act) in the public space and who have an interdisciplinarian approach that is specific to a location.

The organiser provides parts of land and rooms in the OPEN MUSEUM. Within the given conditions, and based on the general idea of the ‘open space’, various activities and cooperations will be realised and supported.

Research Project - UKS Unge Kunstneres Samfund, Oslo

We invite you participate in a research project initiated by Linus Elmes, Director of UKS. The project is supported by the Norwegian Art Council and conducted in association with Torpedo Press, Norway.

We are currently collecting facsimile material to be published in an Encyclopaedia with the working title "No Gods, No Parents". Our intention is to reflect the experience of autonomous artistic practice. We are aiming to reveal the unconscious cognitive system of individual artists, curators, thinkers and others involved in the self-organized and artist run scene.

We are not commissioning texts but collecting existing documents of various forms, such as: invitations, manifestos, proposals, lists, applications, correspondence, legal and financial statements, formal requests and letters of intent.



We think that you, due to your experience in the field, might have such material; something you consider to be of extraordinary interest, something that reveals the very fundamentals of your practice and/or mechanisms that constitute the context that you operate within.

We would kindly ask you to share documents with us. It can be any number of pages but it has to be scanned and sent to us by email as an image or a PDF, or printed and sent by post.
We hope that you consider participating and contributing to the encyclopaedia, however there will be a selection process and we cannot guarantee the publication of all sent material.

The Lab is an interdisciplinary arts organization which supports the development and presentation of new visual, performing, media, sonic, and literary art. Of particular interest is work which crosses boundaries, encourages evolving artistic and social dialogue between artists and audiences, and develops the culture and community of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Lab accepts proposals on an on-going basis. Our programming committee meets periodically to review proposals. Accepted proposals are generally presented one year to eighteen months after the date of acceptance. Please expect a three to four month wait time for a response to a general submission. XHIBITOR is a multiplatform research project investigating transmedia and art exhibitions. An experiment in open access academic publishing, this is the master’s degree dissertation of Julia Fryett.

Though the term transmedia was popularized in 2003, it echoes avant-garde exhibition design strategies theorized by Herbert Bayer and Frederick Kiesler nearly seventy years prior. This project considers transmedia within the trajectory of art history, questioning how it can be employed as a curatorial methodology aligning with Bauhaus and De Stijl notions of immersion and interactivity.

By looking simultaneously toward the past and the present, XHIBITOR is meant to inspire and provoke artists, curators, producers, designers, architects and storytellers across disciplines to push the boundaries of what we consider to be an exhibition.
